Sensei Charles Gidley 9th Dan.

It is with great pleasure and after much deliberation by the Technical Committee of the International Shotokan-Ryu Karate-Do Shihankai (ISKS), that we award Sensei Charles Gidley, kudan (九段) for his many continual years of training, teaching and input into the art of Shotokan Karate.

Sensei Gidley began his karate training in 1964, having trained as a boxer prior to that. He has over 50 years studying and training in Shotokan Karate and is known for his expertise as an instructors instructor.

The ISKS therefore wish to offer our sincerest congratulations to Sensei Gidley on attaining 9th Dan and state that there is total agreement that this award is greatly overdue. As an organisation, which only in special circumstances awards rather than ratifies, we further feel that there can be no greater honour than recognition by ones own peers in the art.

Signed for and on behalf of the ISKS Technical Committee.

George Carruthers 8th Dan, John Mullin 8th Dan, Don Owens 9th Dan, Ronnie Watt 9th Dan, Koos Burger 8th Dan, Alistair Mitchell 7th Dan.
