My name is Ben Fowler and I have an Active IQ Level 3 Diploma in Gym Instructing and Personal Training. ​Based in Romford, I offer one-to-one and small group PT sessions, as well as group fitness classes and running coaching.

UNILATERAL TRAINING- working one side of the body independently of the other

Why incorporate into your training plan?

✅ Helps to address strength imbalances
✅ Improves stability
✅ Enhance overall muscle symmetry
✅ Engages smaller stabilising muscles and challenges core stability more effectively than bilateral exercises
✅ Supports injury prevention

Some exercises to try

✅ Single Leg Squats
✅ Single Leg RDL’s
✅ Lunges
✅ Single Leg Glute Bridges
✅ Single Arm Presses

Start gradually but try and build some of these exercises into your routine

Another brilliant group PT session this morning. A great way to train, 30-45 minutes, 2-4 people, split the cost, increase the motivation. Kettlebells, boxing, circuits, Olympic lifting, plyometrics, sports specific s&c. Options for all 👍👍

Increasing load by varying tempo …. In my opinion one of the most underrated and often overlooked variables for manipulating training load
✅ Controlled Muscle Engagement- hopefully leads to better muscle activation and growth
✅ Increased Time Under Tension - slowing down each rep increases the time the working muscles are under tension enhancing hypertrophy and strength gains
✅ Variation For Progression - Adjusting tempo allows for progression in training without always increasing weight. By manipulating tempo, you can continue challenging your muscles and preventing plateaus.
✅ Injury Prevention - Controlled movements ensure proper form
✅ Versatility And Adaptation - Keeps things interesting

Training for scapular mobility and strength has numerous benefits that we all can use in our lives, think improved posture, improved shoulder health, a stronger upper back helping to reduce the risk of injury and improved exercise performance across a range of lifts and moves. Wishing everyone a Happy New Year and hope 2024 brings everything you wish for.
