A really tough afternoon for us yesterday, made even harder with 9 players unavailable — we had to dig deep just to get a full team on the pitch.

Conditions also made it challenging: no rain all week and high temperatures left the ground firm and fast, making the pitch hard work underfoot for every player.

A massive thank you to every single lad who showed up and put their hand up to play. Against a strong Leigh East side, and in those tough conditions, you gave 100% effort from start to finish, never stopped running, and kept your heads held high right until the final whistle.

We’ll take the lessons from the game, regroup, and come back stronger next time.

We travelled to Oldham today to take on Oldham St Anne’s, facing a tough task from the outset — playing in soaring heat and with only 2 subs available for the whole game.

The first half was a struggle, and we went into the break trailing 18–0. But true to the spirit of this side, the lads came out after halftime with fire in their bellies. They began to win the collisions, find space in attack, and slowly but surely chip away at the deficit.

What followed was a remarkable comeback. Playing through fatigue and the sweltering conditions, Clockface scored three unanswered tries, added the conversions, and incredibly levelled the scores at 18–18 with just 10 minutes remaining. It was a display of sheer determination and togetherness that did the club proud.

Unfortunately, with the heat and lack of fresh legs starting to take their toll, Oldham St Anne’s found an extra burst of energy in the closing minutes. They ran in a flurry of late points, taking the final score to 40–18.

That number on the board does not tell the real story. To come back from 18 points down, with barely any replacements in such tough conditions, shows exactly what this group is made of. They never gave up, fought for every minute, and left everything out on the field.

We had the absolute honour of welcoming Matty Smith and Rich Owen down to work with and watch our lads. Both are highly respected figures in the game, bringing years of top-level experience, great rugby knowledge, and a real passion for helping the next generation improve. Having them share their tips, insights, and expertise was something the players really appreciated.

We are so incredibly grateful to them both for giving up their valuable time to come down and get involved. It meant the world to everyone — and it was especially rewarding to hear them comment on what a great bunch of lads we have: hardworking, respectful, and a pleasure to be around.

The lads loved every minute of the session, and even Jack and Phil couldn’t resist getting stuck in and joining in at the end 😂

We made home advantage count with a strong 28-14 victory over Westhoughton Lions in the Plate competition.

A great all-round performance — tough defence, smart attacking play, and clinical finishing sealed the win. The lads wore the jersey with pride and fully deserved the result.

Westhoughton never let their heads drop and kept fighting right until the final whistle. The defence stood firm when it mattered most, with everyone putting their bodies on the line and working for each other, just as you want to see.
