Short days, cold rock, busy walls… it’s a weird time of year.
Whether you’re celebrating Christmas, skipping it entirely, or just trying to keep warm — hope you find a pocket of fresh air and movement that feels good.

Have a good one 💕

Climbing with kids is brilliant… and occasionally absolute chaos. Here are a few things I’ve learned over the years that make it a lot smoother (and way more fun):

✨ 1. Keep the sessions short
They burn bright and fast. An hour of good vibes beats three hours of meltdown management.

✨ 2. Let them choose some of the climbs
Give them a couple of “you pick” problems. They love having a say, and it keeps the mood light.

✨ 3. Snacks. More snacks. And then extra snacks.
Honestly the most important tip. Hungry kids don’t climb. They riot.

✨ 4. Don’t over-coach
They don’t need perfect footwork at age 6. Let them explore, swing around, make weird beta choices. That’s half the joy.

✨ 5. Make it a game
Timed challenges, parkour in Font, matching holds, ‘spy the next foothold’… kids learn best when it feels like playing, not training.

✨ 6. At the crag: set your expectations low
You might get three climbs in. Or none. And that’s okay. Rope up, enjoy the day, embrace the faff.

✨ 7. Involve them in the “grown-up” bits
Packing the bag, coiling the rope, spotting, take a pad, learning knots. Little jobs make them feel part of it.

✨ 8. Celebrate the small stuff
Their first top-out, their first “I can’t… wait, I can!” moment, their first proper fall. Those are the wins.
Climbing with kids isn’t always smooth, but watching them fall in love with movement, problem-solving, and being outside is honestly magic. And if nothing else… you’ll get some great stories out of it. 😄🧗‍♀️🧗‍♂️🌲
