Cheriene Bailey Adult Ballet
Adult ballet helps me to live with purpose and drive. I love sharing my lifelong joy and passion for ballet with so many people.
Seeing the rewards of enthusiasm and happiness in my students, at the end of each class, is worth its weight in gold.

An Amazing Week
It was such a wonderful gift to see Maria Goodwin in the 8pm Intermediate ballet class last night. Maria, now in her final year at Urdang Academy studying Musical Theatre, trained at Bailey-Cox from when she was little. She paid me a surprise visit, and what an inspiration she was to the class! When she performed Variation 1, the students were absolutely enthralled.
We also welcomed Emily Atkinson back after completing her degree course, which was such a joy.
And yesterday brought another special moment—I met up with two former pupils from the eighties, Lenka Montgomery and Helen Fisher. We chatted for nearly three hours, reminiscing about so many happy times.
What a privilege and joy to share in all these connections. I feel very lucky indeed.

✨ Last week I had the privilege of attending a course at the prestigious Royal Academy of Dance headquarters in London: Principles and Practices of Adapting Ballet Repertoire for Older Learners. One of the pieces we studied was the dramatic Dance of the Knights from Prokofiev’s Romeo and Juliet.
Last night, I shared some of the choreography with my wonderful adult ballet class—and it was such a powerful experience. The music, the movement, the atmosphere… it all came together to create a real sense of strength and assurance in the studio.
I’m excited to teach it again tomorrow in my Friday 9.30 class—what a joy to bring the drama and richness of this iconic ballet into our lessons! 🩰🎶

Here’s to more joyful gatherings with our lovely ballet community! 💃✨

I’m absolutely thrilled to see Barnaby doing so well! I had the pleasure of coaching him for both his Grade 1 and Grade 3 RAD ballet exams (before the untimely demise of BC), and he absolutely smashed Grade 3 with an incredible 98 marks. There’s even a sweet little clip on Look North of him practising his Grade 1 dance while I watch on—so lovely to look back on. I feel so privileged to have been part of so many students’ journeys, and I truly hope Barnaby goes on to achieve everything he dreams of.
'Sheffield's Billy Elliot' fundraising for his dancing dream Barnaby Hawker, 13, needs financial support to help him attend summer courses in ballet.
It’s always such a treat when former students pop in for a ballet class! Last week we had Maddie Keefe and Holly Toombs join us, and I’m expecting Sarah Lambert today. Past pupils are always welcome to drop in for a class—FOC, of course! It’s genuinely lovely to stay in touch and hear what everyone’s up to. If you fancy a class, just drop me a message first to check there’s space!
I’m super proud of my adult Intermediates who donned their pointe shoes for their inaugural pointe class this week.
We were all excited; it was an unforgettable moment in the unfolding story of Adult Ballet Sheffield.
Congratulations to all, you did so well 👏👏👏😘
