SAFE SPACES - If elected, I will provide more safe spaces where women from all backgrounds can come to voice their issues and concerns, knowing they will be heard and taken seriously. I will introduce safe spaces on Union nights out where anyone can go to report assault or any other issues they experience. I have personally experienced assault, on more than one occasion, on a Union night out which made me feel extremely uncomfortable and even caused me to go home - ruining my night. Because of this, creating a space where women can report assault is particularly close to my heart as I want to work to ensure that no one has to ever feel how I - and many other women - have felt in the past.
If you want to see this implemented, vote Mel when voting opens on Monday 26th February.

SUPPORT - If elected I will increase support for existing systems such as the Women’s minibus and campaign for more street lights to be put in Weston Park and Crookes Valley Park. It’s important that you feel safe when you’re out and about, especially at night. I believe that the women’s minibus and other safety schemes are an integral part of safety at our university that should continue to receive all the support they need. If you believe this too, vote Mel when voting opens on Monday 26th February.
