A Hard-Fought Contest Ends in Defeat for the Bombers
The Bombers made the perfect start, taking the lead in the opening minute through #68 Tom Larcombe. Blackburn responded just over three minutes later, and despite the visitors controlling much of the remainder of the first period, the Bombers were pleased to head into the break with the scores level.
Blackburn came flying out in the second period, scoring twice early to establish a two-goal advantage. Larcombe capitalised on a defensive error shortly afterwards, finishing neatly to bring the Bombers back within one goal with just three minutes played.
The remainder of the period was an entertaining back-and-forth battle, with chances at both ends. Benji Allender continued to impress between the pipes, producing a series of excellent saves to keep the Bombers in the game. Despite a strong defensive effort late in the period, Blackburn found the net on the power play with just 10 seconds remaining, extending their lead to 4-2 heading into the final period.
The third period began at a frantic pace, with four goals scored in the opening exchanges. Goals from #87 Malc Smith and #19 Paul Mayne kept the Bombers in contention, but Blackburn matched those strikes to maintain their advantage. With 10 minutes remaining, the visitors led 6-4.
The Bombers hopes of a comeback were reignited when Mayne grabbed his second goal of the night, a deserved reward for the team’s persistence. Unfortunately, Blackburn responded almost immediately, halting the Bombers momentum and restoring their two-goal cushion.
Despite pushing hard in the closing stages, the Bombers were unable to find another breakthrough and ultimately fell to a strong Blackburn side in an entertaining contest.
A big thank you to Blackburn Renegades for making the journey over. It was a great game, and congratulations on the win.
