Beighton Magpies Blacks U8 - 2025/26 - Team updates and match summaries.

23/03/2025

A great crowd was on the sidelines to watch this March cup game unfold against Brampton Utd.

Brampton started off with a flyer and quickly went a few goals up within 5 minutes before Hunter broke away and slotted in a lovely low shot to the keepers right.
Brampton still winning by a couple.

The lads held firm with some good clearances by Rehan and Joey.
After 10 minutes, a triple substitution was made.
Zach and Bradley pressing hard to win the ball up front.
Dylan pegged one goal back with a calm finish before Brampton scored another to make it a few in front at half time.

A positive half time chat was had by the coaches and the Beighton players were smiling and ready for a second half battle.

Half time started and Louie was unlucky not to score hitting the post. Dylan scored again to make it very close then another goal by Brampton stretched their lead.
Hunter then scored again to bring it tight.
Bradley shot from distance and the keeper couldn’t hold onto it. Equal score, game on.

With just a few minutes left, it looked like Brampton Utd stole it at the death with some excellent pressing and slotted it home from close range.
This is what tests a team’s character and Beighton never gave up. Rehan did an amazing weaving run through the middle before it was just nicked off him towards the keeper.
With seconds left, it looked like time was done.
With a big slice of luck, the ball fell straight into Dylan’s path to be one on one with the keeper and he slotted it in to tie the match and take it to penalties.

A very close game against an excellent Brampton Utd side who had some amazing players, their number 7 was a class above most.
So onto penalties.
Up first was Louie who powerfully shot the ball into the roof of the net which started off fantastic for the magpies.
Then Frank the tank came into his own with 4 brilliant saves. The magpies kept calmly dispatching the ball into the net to win the match on penalties.
The lads were joyous and celebrated while being respectful to Brampton and shook hands. A great close game and smiles all round.

MOTD for Louie for being a fantastic captain, great attitude and a brilliant penalty taken.

Big mentions to Bradley for keeping number 7 at bay and scoring from distance.
Hunter & Dylan for great goals.
Frank for excellent keeping and saving four penalties.

And for all the Bieghton Magpie team for never giving up.

The boys were on their travels today as they made a short journey to take on Brinsworth Whitehill whites at the phoenix sports ground. The pitch was in great condition and the sun was shining which almost felt spring like (not long to go now!).
Straight from the kick off, it was clear that Beighton were on the front foot and looked the most dangerous of the two teams in scoring. Some great passing from the back created a few attacks moving forward but nothing dangerous. However, Beighton got on the score sheet early. From a goal kick, Frank passed to Dylan who opened up and worked the ball down his line to pick out Bradley. Bradley managed to spin his marker, and then cut inside. On doing so from just inside the box, hit a bullet of strike into the left-hand side top corner of the goal. The Brinsworth keeper stood no chance.
The early goal seemed to settle the nerves of the boys as they passed the ball around well. Zach was again Roy Keane like chasing the ball and tackling hard, whilst Dylan and Bradley interacted well down the left which caused Brinsworth some problems. The second goal for Beighton came when a bit of a scramble in the box fell to Bradley who hit a first time shot at the advancing keeper. However, although the keeper made a brave and magnificent save, the ball fell to Bradley again to tap in for Beighton and his second.

As the half wore on Brinsworth showed great play and their passing game was on point. Frank in goal had to make a good save when the ball was drilled low which deflected away for a corner with his legs. Hunter in defence was solid as ever with some good tackles. They boys were clearly on the same page as they worked hard for each and supported each other.

Second half came and again both sides did not ease off. It was end to end stuff with some great play down the right on more than one occasion by Brinsworth. Joey and Louie were strong and would not give up which was great to see. Especially Louie who refused to let the opposition have time and space and was strong throughout. Rehans energy and pace caused numerous issue for the defence. As always, Rehans work rate was there to be seen and chased the ball down well. Late in the second half another good stop by Frank as the ball was curled in from the edge of the box through a crowd of players and managed to hold onto it.
In the dying moments Beighton gained their third goal of the day with yet again another run down the left. Another good save by their keeper prevented a hat trick for Bradley, however Zach was there to toe poke it into the net. Final whistle came and appreciation was shown by all spectators (a massive crowd) to all the players involved. Both teams gave it their all and was an entertaining and thrilling game to see. However, it was back-to-back success for the boys. They worked hard individually and as a team. The step up in the second half of the season does not seem to phase them. They are learning to play the game and learning about themselves and growing.

Today’s man of the match when to Hunter for and excellent performance. Solid and strong at the back, great listening and working hard not only on his own game but working hard for his team. A big shout out to Brinsworth and their supporters today. They were welcoming and appreciated the boys’ efforts. Great to see and be part of.

Many Thanks to our winter coat sponsor Pyramid Carpets.

Another Sunday morning and they boys were buzzing with enthusiasm and energy. The pitch was once again a little heavy, however very much playable. The sun was out and a good turn out of Spectors on both sides were in store for a very competitive match. For the boys it was back to a winning feeling this week as all the players involved gave it their all from the off. Today the boys listened well and held their shape when attacking and defending.
Beightons goals came at a steady Pace. It was Bradley who got a brace in the first half. This was well deserved as Bradley worked hard and his energy was high. Strong tackles and some great runs. The two goals were taken with a calmness and composure to settle any nerves of the crowd and coaches.
There were also some great inter play in the first half by the boys. Dylan on the left played the role of a wingback with some delightful balls down the left for the every energetic Rehan who made some great runs. This week there was some composure on the ball as players looked to pick out the perfect pass. Although the pitch didn't help, they still tried to play football which was great to see. Zach dropped into a defensive role first off who out of position did very well with some very strong tackles and position play.
As stated earlier there were chances within the first half to score more with some great link up play by Dylan and Rehan. Both worked really hard, and it was Rehan who was unfortunate not to get on the score sheet, he deserved a goal for his work rate. Bradley on the right, ran that side and put the defence under pressure with every move forward. Frank had to make two great saves in the first half to keep the match alive, the first causing him to be winded slightly, however he was back on his feet for yet another fine save in the dying moments of the first half with a strong shot at his near post. Half time whistle and it was evenly matched.

Second half the boys continued to play football. The introduction of Joey early on showed how he could slot into the defensive role. Some great tackles and moving the ball forward by Joey was a delight to see. Its clear he is learning and developing in that role. Half way through the second half Louie was introduced. He worked tirelessly to get into the attacking positions. He never gave up. He continued to make the important runs into the box, taking a defensive player with him which opened the role for Dylan to carry to the ball forward before taking a low shot to get on the score sheet. Beightons next goal was the goal of the game. Again, from defence, the ball was given to Bradley down the right, who yet again beat his man. Bradley managed to look up and whip a teasing ball into the box in-between the keeper and the defence. Zach was at full speed down the right and for a moment it was thought he would not get there, however a final burst managed to get him past the right shoulder of the defender to slot home at the back post. A team goal where all the players were involved. Louie continued to badger the opposite and put them under pressure in the middle of the park. He worked so hard off the ball. Well done Louie.
At the back, Joey was solid in defence and the ever-shouting Frank in goal managed any balls that was played into the box and organised his defence well.
In the dying moments Beighton was awarded a direct free kick at the edge of the area, Dylan was the man for the task. With a sweet strike into the goal to extend the lead.
The final whistle came and the attitude of both sets of players were impeccable. The boys today worked so hard and more important, supported each other and played as a team.

The coaches spoke around the man of the match and it was a very tough call to make. However it was decided that due to his listening and working the ball well down the left and a couple of goals to boot, the MOM went to Dylan and rightly so.

Overall a great day for the boys, they worked hard for each other. Next week sees a Sunday off (hurray the grown ups shout) as we are without a fixture.

Happy half term to the boys and to everyone else, have a great week.

It was a sombre start to the proceedings today as both teams showed their respects for a former Beighton Magpies player. A minute’s silence was observed by both sets of players, coaches, and spectators for Harvey Willgoose. Our thoughts are with his family and friends. #15 🖤🤍🖤

It wasn’t to be for the boys today as they came up against a very strong Wombwell Main team. From the off Wombwell passed the ball around well and held possession. It was clear to see that they had been together for the past 4 years, whereas the magpies have been together as a team since April.
The boys gave it their all. They kept on running, tackling, and trying to break down the defence of Wombwell. Goals came at a steady pace in the first half for Wombwell, however the Magpies managed to get on the score sheet. It was Rehan who picked up the ball and travelled a short distance before unleashing a long range shot goal bound which dipped just in front of their keeper and managed to slip from the grasp of the keeper into the goal. Throughout the first half Wombwell was on top both with possession and shots on target. With this Frank was very busy and made some good saves to keep the score down.
Second half was yet again dominated by Wombwell, however the boys defended well and continued to tackle and give it their all. This resulted by only conceding one goal in the second half.
As the full-time whistle blew, the boys held their emotions together and congratulated the Wombwell team and showed the upmost respect. The boys never gave in. This showed how much they had grown as individuals and as a team.
This week’s man of the match went to Frank in goal. He made some great saves both in the first and second half. He continued to shout instructions and commanded his box well. Frank certainly kept the score down.

Once again thanks to all our traveling supporters and to our winter coat sponsor Pyramid Carpets.
We now move on to the next fixture at home down at the miners against Bramley Sunnyside. We hope to all see you there to support the boys on their journey.

19/01/2025

A new year and a new chapter in the boys’ journey in junior football. After a 4-week winter break it was time to prepare for the up and coming second half of the season. Today’s fixture was away against Bramley, who have been paired in our league for second half of the season. On arrival, it was clear that the boys were excited to get under way and start playing again after the break. The pitch was still slightly frozen upon arrival; however, it was deemed playable. Prior to the kick off and due to being a friendly, it was agreed to play 4 x 15-minute halves to get plenty of game time in.
As the game kicked off, it was clear that this was a step up for the boys, with Bramley having most of the ball, however it was the magpies that made the breakthrough. Dylan gained the ball on the left and did his trademark run at the defenders, this opened a pocket of space for him to hit a sweet shot across the keeper to take the lead against the run of play.
For a short time after that, Beighton defended well. Hunter was solid at the back for the first 15 minutes making some good tackles and blocks as well as clearing the ball away. Frank in goal was busy from the off, with him collecting balls in the box and making some crucial blocks early on, however the experience of Bramley came to light with them equalising with a one on one with their player cooly slotting the ball home. 1-1 soon became 2-1 to Bramley. Again, Bramley got into a commanding position with yet another one on one and again was dispatched to make it 2-1. However, the boys’ heads did not drop. Bramley again took the lead even further by making it 3-1 with yet another cool finish. Beighton still kept on pushing forward and reaped the rewards with another calm finish from Dylan making it 3-2.
That was the last of the goals from Beighton, Bramley kept on pushing.
Bramley passed the ball around well and the goals came on a regular basis with them rushing to a 9 -2 lead. Full time came, and it was a defeat for the magpies. There were a few disappointed players out there as the whistle blew, however this is all about learning, and growing together as a team and as footballers. They will be tested in second part of the season on a regular basis; however, I feel the boys are up to the task. This week’s man of the match went to Rehan and rightly so. Rehan never gave up and constantly made his runs in the attacking third. He had smile on his face all the match and put the effort in. Well done to Rehan.
The boys now need to re group and train hard over the coming weeks to prepare for their first league fixture on Feb 2nd at home to Junior blades reds.

This report is something completely different……….

The final training session of the calendar year had approached, and it was decided that to mark the occasion, a match would be played with the lads and their grown-ups! The scene was set, the floodlights piercing the dark night sky and an atmosphere of excitement by the boys yet anxiety by the grownups! The pitch soon became a time machine, as the dads crossed the line on to the pitch and once again for however long, became a 6/7 yr. old once more, chasing their dreams as a footballer and trying to attain their footballing heroes whilst still holding the torch of the little ones hero status.
Once the match kicked off it was end to end to stuff with few chances either way. The dads played their part too, putting in crunching tackles. A master class of passing was seen, the grownups integrating well with the boys which enabled them to pass the ball around. Soon the deadlock was broken, a great attack down the left-hand side enabled a good quality square ball. The advancing veteran goalkeeper was quick off his line, however not as quick as Louie who deliciously lifted the ball over the outstretched keeper to score one of his best finishes that has been seen. The celebration was to match also!

From that moment it was end to end stuff and soon the non-bibs took a 3-1 led. 3-1 soon became 4-1 with the veteran keeper picking the ball out yet again after being embarrassed by the skills of a 7yr old. The bibs soon got another goal back, this time it was Beighton’s number 1 who scored his first ever goal in any format, this topped off a typical goalkeeper’s performance up front (never leaving the opposition goal line!).
As the final whistle approached, the non-bibs took the spoils 6-3. As tradition goes with any training session, it was time for a penalty shoot out for the boys with some great penalties from the boys. Then it was the turn for the dads, some great pens and some misses, but fun was had.
It was then time. Time for the grown ups to step back across the line and be transformed back into the here and now, almost stepping back from the past. The smiles on boys and dads’ faces could not be matched.
One final surprise for the boys, a gift for each one of them kindly donated by our away kit sponsor MAYFIELD ELECTRICAL. I am sure the boys have opened the gifts by now, however such a kind a generous touch.
And so, the final training session of the year was final wrapped up (pun intended) and thoughts were now concentrated on the festive period.

Final Thoughts…….
As Christmas is approaching its time to take a step back and take stock. Its time to relax and spend time with loved ones and friends and cherish each day. The boys have come on so much since we all got together in April. This is evident by the performances that they have put in since September. Its just not the boys that have worked hard, Paul our manager works tirelessly behind the scenes in order to make sure we have refs and fixtures in place. Ed and Matt are at Pauls side to assist with match days and discussions throughout the week. A massive thank you to them. Also, thanks to you, the family and friends that support these boys on a day to day and week to week basis. You are their foundation, their support through the tough times that they have and that they will encounter throughout their journey. Their journey is just that, a journey learning to play the game, learning to be a team mate, learning to deal with life’s pressure and emotions. Each one of the lads will develop at their own rate, no one else’s and they will get there. You should all be very proud of each and every one of the boys as they give their all in every training session and match that they undertake. But remember this, its game that brings us all together as the magpie family. We are there for each other as players, coaches and supporters alike. But just remember this……..this is football, its all it is, it’s just a game………

Big thank you to our following sponsors.

A long read ahead!

Games come thick and fast in junior football and just under 48hrs later after our excellent performance against Evo soccer it was time to hit the road and embark on pre Christmas tournament out at Matlock. The boys were in good spirits and a massive turn out from family and friends ensured a pre match festive atmosphere with plenty of warm drinks and some fantastic sausage rolls curtesy of paul at pop up chef. However the Christmas spirit had to be put on hold as kick off for the magpies, their first match was fast approaching and their journey in this tournament was about to begin.

Game 1 - v rattlesnakes.

A steady start by the magpies in this game saw the magpies take the opportunity to take a lead, however it wasn’t too long before lead was cut short with a fantastic strike to equalise. The score stayed the same leading up to the break with either side unable to nudge infront. HT 1-1. Second half the rattlesnakes showed more promise moving forward and a good through ball to their striker saw Frank with a brave block, however a cool and calm finish under pressure saw the rattlesnakes player find then back of the net with an excellent finish. Now Beighton could have collapsed as being behind, however this is where the boys showed true grit and personality. Quickly the lead was squashed and an equaliser was found. The magpies then stepped up a gear as goals came thick and fast as the magpies ran to a 5-2 lead. FT 5-2 to Beighton, a great start to the tournament and what great character they showed under pressure.

Game 2 v Samba

It was time to face their next opponents. Samba who put in a great performance in their previous match came into the game with confidence, however it was the magpies who started the brightest and in the first minute a quick goal by Dylan running through and poking it past the keeper to take the lead. A great start. The battle was in midfield with crunching tackles from both sides. It was a battle that only one team could win. It was more in the way of a local sheffield steel city derby with the determination shown by both sides. Through the first half, the magpies managed to score three with Samba scrambling one back after a deflection on the post and sliding in before Frank could get there. HT 3-1 Beighton. Second half again was a battle. Neither side letting up on their tackles. A steady flow of goals came in the second and a penalty by Bradley which only Harry Kane would have been proud of was dispatched confidently. They only real chance that Samba had in the second half was a through ball in the dying minutes, however Frank was off his line to slide tackle out of the box. FT 6-1 and a confident performance was given by all.

Game 3 V Brampton

So it all came down to the winner takes all final game of the tournament. Brampton came into the game probably the favourites after their unbeaten run, however The magpies knew that a draw would probably mean that they would take the title on goal difference. The conditions had changed and the wind had picked up. First half the magpies would be kicking against the wind. An important 10 mins was ahead. It was Brampton no surprisingly started the strongest. The magpies battled hard, however the deadlock was broken when Brampton pushed forward and on the advancing magpies keeper, Brampton calmly slotted it past. Again, Beighton was struggling to get out of their half at times, but this was down to the wind. A couple a good saves again by Frank kept the score at 1-0. However he had no chance with the second with a curling shot from the right hand side into the top corner. 2-0 Brampton. A third came quite quickly for Brampton as tackles were flying at the edge of the box, however the Brampton player managed to hit his shot low and hard, although it was felt he knew little about it into the bottom corner. Half time approached and it was 3-0. The magpies had to get together to re group, this half the wind was behind them. Straight from the off Beighton pushed on. This was the story of the half. Brampton defended well. Beighton thought they had got on the score sheet. A goal line scramble and it appeared the ball had crossed the line. The fans were cheering who were close to the goal and the players and management alike. However it was not given, there was no VAR nor was there any Russian lines man (if you know, you know). No goal and the boys were dejected. Brampton held on and took the spoils 3-0. There were tears at the whistle from the boys. This was due to giving their all and the passion that they showed. However, the boys showed great sportsmanship and congratulated the champions as they lifted the trophy. A great performance was given by the boys and also the management. It was a clear step up for the boys, however they handled themselves impeccably and should be proud of themselves. Man of the tournament for Beighton must have been a very hard decision for the magement as all the players deserved the recognition. However it was magpies number 1 that was graced with the honour due to a number of brave and good saves.

Final thoughts…..

Football is journey at their age. They are in the infancy of learning the game, learning how to play, learning how to be a team and learning how lose gracefully. They are learning to deal with their emotions, their fears and also their ecstasy. As the first half of the season comes to a close, we, as family and friends should and will no doubt be proud of what the boys have achieved, how they have grown. We should all be proud of Paul our manger and the assistants of Ed and Matt as they try and do their very best for the boys. As Christmas approaches, it’s time to take stock of what is important. Today and other days are just football. That’s all it is. We must appreciate how they have developed and grown. The friendships that they have as much as we have with each other as parents. We are now the magpie family. We now look forward to second half of the season where we will be tested in every game. Again they will learn, adapt and become stronger. So on that note, I wish you all, family, friends, parents, management , and players a very merry Christmas. Up the magpies!
