🐴 HOW OFTEN SHOULD A GELDING'S SHEATH BE CLEANED?

Here's the thing...

There isn't a magic “every 6 months” or “once a year” rule that applies to every horse. 👀

Some geldings naturally keep themselves relatively clean and may need very little intervention, while others accumulate much more sm**ma and may develop a bean that needs removing.

So rather than automatically cleaning your horse on a set schedule, it's much better to keep an eye on what's normal for your individual horse.

Things that may suggest they need attention include:

🔸 Visible build-up of sm**ma
🔸 A noticeable bean
🔸 Increased rubbing of the sheath
🔸 Sensitivity around the area
🔸 Changes in their normal urination
🔸 Swelling, irritation or an unusual odour

And importantly...

🚫 More cleaning doesn't necessarily mean better care.

The skin around the sheath is sensitive, and unnecessary or overly frequent cleaning can cause irritation.

If you're unsure whether your gelding actually needs cleaning, don't be embarrassed to ask! 😂

That's exactly what I'm here for.

At EBH Equine, I offer professional sheath cleaning and bean removal, carried out calmly and respectfully, with your horse's welfare coming first. ❤️

📩 Not sure whether your gelding needs some attention? Message me and we can have a chat.

🐴✨ A LITTLE BEHIND THE SCENES AT EBH EQUINE…

If you've been following EBH for a while, you'll know that what started as a small equine business has been getting busier and busier! ❤️

From clipping and sheath cleaning to yard cover, riding lessons and show preparation, there is a lot that goes on behind the scenes to keep everything running smoothly.

And whilst I absolutely love being busy, I also want to make sure I can continue giving every horse and every client the time, care and attention they deserve.

That's why I'm really excited to now have an additional set of hands on board at EBH. 🐴🤍

It means I can continue welcoming new clients, take on more work and keep providing a reliable service — without compromising on the standard of care I want EBH to be known for.

Because ultimately, that's what EBH is all about:

🐴 Happy horses
❤️ Happy owners
🤝 Reliable, professional service

🐴 LOOKING FOR RIDING LESSONS?

Did you know that riding lessons are also available through EBH Equine? 👀

Whether you're looking to build your confidence, improve your riding, work on a particular area, or simply want some structured time in the saddle, lessons can be tailored around you and your horse.

I don't believe every rider needs to be taught exactly the same way.

Every horse and rider combination is different, so lessons are adapted to your individual goals, experience and what you and your horse need to work on. ❤️

We can work on things such as:

🐎 Flatwork & schooling
🎯 Improving accuracy
💪 Position & balance
🦵 Improving your aids
🐴 Working with your horse's way of going
🌟 Building confidence
🏆 Preparing for competitions
…and anything else you'd like to improve!

With BHS Stage 1 & Stage 2 qualifications and my BHS Preliminary Teaching Test, I have a strong foundation in both horse care and instruction, with your safety, confidence and your horse's welfare at the centre of every lesson.

And lessons aren't just for people aiming for the competition ring!

Sometimes you simply want to feel more confident, more secure and more in tune with your horse — and that's just as important. ❤️

📩 If you'd like to find out more about riding lessons with EBH Equine, send me a message.

I'm currently taking bookings for new and existing clients, alongside my other equine services.

I have been to a few yards recently and heard a few comments regarding it being

'to early to clip' or 'we are holding off longer to clip'

So my question to this is why?

With the shorter days and colder nights, horses are throwing out their winter coats like no tomorrow, especially the heavier breeds.

It's 21 degrees today ... I'm going about my work DRIPPING in sweat, with a t shirt on, never mind a thick hairy coat.

If your horse is getting hot during work, or like many I'm clipping, hot literally stood still, please get them clipped, please think about welfare
over aesthetic, please imagine standing in this heat in a big wooly coat. You can replace hair with rugs, you can make them comfortable by warming them up when it drops cold, you can't do a great deal other than clipping to help cool them down!

If you think your horse is struggling with this totally abnormal October weather, please do get in touch!

🐴✂️ BOOKED IN FOR A CLIP? HERE'S HOW TO GET YOUR HORSE READY!

Want your horse's clip to look its best? A little preparation beforehand can make a BIG difference to the finished result. 👌

Here are my top 5 tips:

1️⃣ Make sure they're clean 🧼
A clean coat gives the clippers a much easier job and helps achieve a smoother, more even finish.

2️⃣ Make sure they're completely dry 💨
Wet or damp hair can make clipping much harder and isn't ideal for your clippers or blades.

3️⃣ Give them a good brush 🪮
Remove as much mud, dust and loose hair as possible before I arrive.

4️⃣ Think about their behaviour 🐴
If your horse is nervous, young or hasn't been clipped before, let me know beforehand. There's absolutely no judgement! Knowing in advance means we can approach things in the best way for your horse.

5️⃣ Have a think about what clip you want 🤔
Not sure whether your horse needs a hunter, blanket, trace, bib or something else? Don't worry — I'm always happy to discuss the options and help you choose something suitable for your horse, their workload and their living arrangements.

✨ And one final tip...

Please don't leave it until clipping day to discover that your horse has decided the clippers are their mortal enemy. 😂

If they're nervous about clipping, tell me when booking. We can talk through the best way to approach it and make the experience as calm as possible.

📩 Still need to book your autumn clip? I have availability — message EBH Equine to get booked in.

Meet Bear 🐻 🐴

Bears lovely owner contacted me wanting a clip, but she did say he came with a warning ⚠️

She said he can be really funny around his back legs due to past bad experience and also really doesn't like his head being done!

When I got to Bear, it was clear he was apprehensive about me being there and clipping, but he was an absolute superstar ⭐️

We managed a full clip including half a head, to his owners wonderful suprise, she didn't even need any aids or gadgets for him to have his head done, not even any yummy distractions!

Safe to say both Bear and his owner left the clip with so much joy that we could give him a calm, happy clipping experience! 🥰

Sometimes all it takes is patience, understanding the horse is worried, working at their pace, listening to their reactions and reassuring every step of the way!

Clipping season is busy, VERY busy, but I will never rush a job because of how full my diary is, my main goal is always a good experience for both horse and owner - I am so pleased this could be done for Bear! 🥹

Jobs like this is why I love what I do, the reward is so real!

If your horse is worried about clipping or you're worried that they won't deal with it well, please don't hesitate to contact me, I'm always happy to try and help where I can! 💜🤍

Whether you're heading away for a few days, working long hours, have appointments to attend, or simply need an extra pair of reliable hands around the yard, EBH Equine can help. ❤️

I offer holiday and general yard cover, tailored around you, your horses and your usual routine.

🏡 Holiday cover
🐴 Feeding & routine care
🧹 General yard jobs
💧 Mucking out & water
🌿 Turnout & bringing in
🐎 Exercise where required
❤️ Keeping an eye on your horses and letting you know if anything doesn't seem quite right

Every yard and every horse is different, so I don't believe in a one-size-fits-all approach. I'll work around your normal routine and your horses' individual needs.

And with an additional set of hands now on board at EBH, I'm able to continue taking on new clients and offer greater availability when you need it.

So if you're thinking:

"I really could do with someone reliable to help at the yard..."

Let's have a chat about what you need and see if EBH Equine could take some of the pressure off.

Because asking for a little help doesn't mean you're not doing enough — sometimes it means you're doing a lot. ❤️🐴
