The Rother Valley Relays is always a fun, but competitive start to the summer, and yesterday didn't disappoint. The Green Peaks squad were out in force yesterday laying down markers, making comeback runs, and generally smashing it.
Team events always bring a different level of effort. You can see on their faces how much they want to perform for their club and their team.
Notable perfomances from new recruit as part of the winning women's team π₯³. anchoring her team to 3rd place π. and forming 2/3rds of the 7th place team, both making their racing comeback after some time off. And running a lonely leg, only 11 seconds off her PB, and anchoring her team to third in the mixed category ππ
Also shout outs to going sub 23mins for the 3rd time in a row. on running a tough first leg for her mixed team, racing mainly against men on that leg. And Ed Shattock on running an 18:23 after 3 weeks away.
I can't recommend club running enough, if you're not a member of one, what you waiting for? Running can be such a solo pursuit, but it can also be full of wonderful team events, with just the best atmosphere.

A little to last weekend's races, and a tale of extremes again.
First up we have .slocombe.3 continuing her series with the HOWUM 30 miler through the Heart of Wales. 30 miles and 4000ft of climbing, Jenny finished in under 7:24:54. Awesome work.
And at the other end of the scale we had Bethan Varney taking part in the No Walk In The Park 5km in Chesterfield. Going sub20 for the third time in a row, with a 19:43. All boding well for her crack at Grimsby 10k in a little over 4 weeks.
Well done guys.

What a day at the Two world records, two men under 2 hours, and two Green Peaks Athletes making everyone so proud.
came into this having broke her marathon PB last April. Despite the heat, and some logistical mishaps before the start, she went even faster again. This time running 3:21:44, taking a massive 3 minutes off her previous best. Such an amazing run in tough conditions.
was taking part in her first marathon, and gave herself a tough target. However, the weather was not her friend, with the promised clouds not materialising, Em was sensible, adjusted her target and came home in 3:38:44. Another amazing run in tough conditions.
I'm so proud of both Ellen and Emily for their efforts tosay, and through all their training. Ellen is taking a well earned break, hope you enjoy. We'll hear from Emily in the next few days as she wraps up her training vlog.

Yesterday tackled the Yorkshire Three Peaks Fell Race. 24.2 miles, 5236ft of elevation. Her goal was to get round under the cut off and become a finisher. She did it!!!!
5:40:34, finishing 480th out of 567 finishers (and about 650 starters. That was massive, well done Rachel.
This is all in searing heat, and having nursed an ongoing foot issue for the past few weeks. Super run, and well deserved.

London Marathon: it's starting to get real. With and both racing tomorrow, it's going to be a fun one to support. This is what the last 12 weeks of Emily's training has looked like. Every mile, every rep, every rest day, have all been focussed on getting to that start line tomorrow.Β
Marathon day is often seen as a victory lap for your training. However this diminishes the challenge somewhat as marathons are hard, but your training helps you do hard things. Whatever happens, both Ellen and Emily have trained hard, are fitter than ever, and have done themselves proud. Can't wait to see what tomorrow brings.

Well done to everyone who raced yesterday, there were some big performances out there. For Green Peaks athletes, these performances stretched from to 25km, via
Starting in Manchester, Jenny Alexander smashed her marathon PB by over 30 minutes, with an amazing 4:51:55. Going into this, she thought getting close to 5 hours would be great, to go well under that is special. Well done Jenny.
Sticking with the Alexander family, son James completed his first marathon yesterday. We did a lot of work on his plan to balance training with studying, with some big exams coming up. Such a good run from James to finish in 3:45:55.
And finally in Manchester, was Hannah Holliday, started the training block so well, but a couple of niggles meant 2 weeks of no training at a crucial time. She bounced back strong, stayed mostly positive (it wouldn't be marathon training without a couple of wobbles), and took an astounding 10 minutes off her PB with a 3:17:26.
Flying out to Berlin, Jamie Smith challenged himself to the 25km event. Pacing it to perfection, and coming home in 2:17:45, to go faster than his average pace at Sheffield Half just a few weeks earlier. Finishing in the Olympic stadium will live long in the memory for Jamie.
And then to Dronfield. A tough little course, two laps, with hills aplenty. Three of the squad tackled this, all at various points in training for bigger goals, but it's always good to have a run out. Michael Cambell was the first home in 40:05, a solid performance with some big races on the horizon. Hannah Jayne Wright continued to build her consistency with a great 71:51. And new to the squad Claire Wren, so fast her partner couldn't even catch her on camera, finished in 45:46, a good benchmark as she starts her training.
There were some huge performances from the squad, whether it was PBs, completing challenges, or just having a good time (there was talk of hot cross buns at Dronfield). It's safe to say the group chat has been a hive of positivity. Well done everyone π₯³ππ
