Itâs pretty difficult to ânotâ do something
If your goals look something like
- Donât have takeaways đ
- Donât drink đș
- Donât miss workouts đđŒââïž
Youâre putting yourself in a position where youâre having to rely solely on willpower to push through
Instead look at what you can do instead
- What are you going to eat when youâd usually get that takeaway?
- What situations do you find drinking a problem? Can you avoid them or do you need to approach them differently?
- What makes you skip the gym? What can you do instead?
Adding habits that support you in your journey is always going to trump removing old habits
What could you get started with today? đ

Itâs not always about working harder
When Lisa first started she was already putting in the effort, all we had to do was refocus those efforts into what actually brings results
Instead of hours of cardio, we focussed her efforts into weights sessions that are planned and tracked so that we know that sheâs progressing from week to week
Instead of focussing on getting her calories lower, we focussed on increasing protein and fuelling her sessions
The outcome speaks for itself

Yesterday I talked about why I think you should still be training in December, even if you canât be arsed
Today I want to tell you how I go about helping my clients do that even when theyâre shorter on time and motivation
We start from a point of knowing that we absolutely could just relax and not worry about it, BUT
1. Weâd feel worse for it in the short term. You should feel better, physical and mentally, when youâre training regularly, so it makes no sense to stop
2. Weâd leave ourselves with a lot of work to do to âget back into itâ in January
But we also accept that time might be shorter, hereâs how we deal with that

Itâd be easy to hit the âF*ck it itâs Xmasâ button when it comes to your training over the next few weeks
It may seem tempting
Dark mornings and evenings, things to do, presents to buy, parties and family get togethers to attend
But think about it like this, I know youâre busy, but do you actually feel better when you stop finding time to look after yourself?
Do you feel less stressed when you stop exercising?
Do you enjoy the parties, get togethers and meals out more?
No-oneâs expecting you to be getting in the best sessions of your life over this period (although donât rule out how good training can feel the day after a big meal out)
But you owe it to yourself to continue to find some time to look after yourself during this period and your âJanuary 1stâ self will thank you for whatever effort youâre able to give now
Remember, exercise in December is never about âburning offâ what youâve eaten or punishing yourself for having a good time
As always, itâs about having the discipline to push yourself even when you donât feel like it because you KNOW that youâll be glad you did
