In the run up to the Spring Equinox at the end of March, I’m preparing a set of yoga sessions to help align with the energies of this time, to help us get ready for what is coming up. It feels like everything is beginning to wake up out there, like it’s almost time to get out there and get going – if only it would stop raining! And I know that by the time we hit the Equinox, I’ll be raring to go!

But before we get to that point, there’s still time to set some really good foundations for all of this 2026 action.
In my usual Somatic Yoga classes over the next few weeks, we’re going to be looking at boundaries and edge places and in particular, at the movement between edge and ease. This is basically going to help our nervous system get more familiar with transitioning between these two states, and it’s going to help train us to notice when perhaps we need to be a bit kind to ourselves, letting ourselves rest and recoup before launching out again.

As we work through this short block of classes between now and the 23rd March, you can expect familiar yoga poses, woven through with gentle somatic flow sequences. There will be lots of self-compassion as we gently wake the body up and with that in mind, there will also be lots of playful and exploratory movements, fantastic for nervous system regulation and also great for waking up underused muscle groups that are feeling sluggish or stiff perhaps, after all this cold and wet weather.

If this all sounds good to you, you're so welcome to come and join us. All my classes are standalone, so come to one or come to all, it’s totally up to you. Classes are all mixed ability and run every Monday:

Church Stretton 9.30 – 10.30am
Shrewsbury 12 – 1pm
Picklescott 7 – 8.15pm

At this turning of the year, I’ve prepared a special somatic yoga class with this in mind, as a way of reflecting back over the year that has passed, a way of working to loosen its tendrils and create an easy flow forwards, without even bringing to mind a single thing that has happened.

Somatic yoga is a fantastic way to work with the events of the past. Because the past is written into the very fabric of our bodies. We cannot grasp or change the past itself, but we can feel its echoes still with us here now.

And through our yoga movements, we can acknowledge and accept these echoes, these subtle sensations of the nervous system, these patterns of tightness and tension that we hold.

With gently guided movements, we can flow with these echoes and be flowed by them, dance with them, moving their rhythms through the body, transforming them with the alchemy of this moment, with our compassionate gaze, into a thing of beauty. And from there, we can stand poised and ready, a loving pause in the glorious dance that is our life, ready to embrace the beauty of whatever movements are yet to come.

Join me in class at Jenna Blair Yoga Studio, Shrewsbury on Monday 29th Dec at 12 - 1.00. Book via my website:

We’ve been having a lovely exploration of themes relating to Autumn in my Gentle Somatic Yoga class in Shrewsbury and are coming towards the end of this set now, with just two sessions left until we switch to a new topic. It’s been lovely to reflect back over the summer with gratitude for the gifts of this year and to hold that sense through our yoga movements in class.

This Monday (20th Oct), we’ll be looking at the way our body collects patterns of tension during the busy months of the year, exploring some of the key ways this tends to build up. We’ll be using yoga movements to explore how this has manifested in our own bodies this year, offering compassion and gentle movements to help befriend, soften and loosen the tension we find.

In our final session on Monday 27th October, we’ll be taking inspiration from our beautiful Autumn trees right now and will be exploring deep rest, through tuning in, softening down and letting go, with very gentle yoga flow sequences and breathwork. All being well, we should emerge from this series all refreshed and ready for the long, quiet months of the year.

It’s not too late to join us if you would like to come along and give this all a go. Find out more and book:

I think one of the things I appreciate so much about Somatic Yoga is how it has helped melt away the stiffness in my body. This tension builds over the years doesn’t it. I think for me it flared up especially badly as I began going through perimenopause. I’d find myself waking in the morning, all seized up and stiff. I’d ease myself out of bed, feeling like a little old lady, stiff and sore. I began reining in my gardening jobs after my back went out one too many times. And I started turning more and more to yoga. The stretches each morning really helped me keep going, but the morning stiffness was always there. Until I found somatic yoga.

This has been and continues to be a game changer for me, in allowing me to fully let go of so much residual tension. I had no idea there was so much of it locked in there! With this beautiful practice, I’m finding that not only am I bouncing out of bed more readily, but I can walk more freely, crouch and get up again with more ease, I feel lighter and more nimble in all of my movements.

Having trained now as a Somatic Yoga teacher, I’m really excited to be able to share this wonderful practice more widely. If you or anyone you know could benefit from this, I have an introductory workshop coming up in Church Stretton on Monday 13th October at 9.30am, where you can give it a try and hear about what makes it special.

🌸 You've got to grab these mornings when you can hey! I couldn't resist nipping outside for my morning yoga today and am so glad I did. The sky was gorgeous - filled with those little puffy clouds all lined up in neat rows above me. The sparrows were swooping and chittering overhead, making the most of the open sky, now that the swallows have gone. The dew was still on the ground and it was sparkling in the bushes around me as the sun glimmered through them. Magical! A glorious start to the day! 💫🌞
