Your Horse is Your Mirror

I’ve been thinking a lot about how riders grow best:quietly, kindly, without pressure.

Confidence isn’t loud.

It’s steady.

And it’s shared between you and your horse.

There’s a particular kind of quiet here —
the kind that makes your shoulders drop
and your thoughts slow
and your horse sigh beside you.
I love sharing this space with riders.

Ever feel like your technical skills completely vanish the moment the pressure is on?

It’s not just you—it’s what sports psychologists call "choking under pressure."

When we get anxious, we often shift from our fluid, automatic movement to over-thinking every single body part.

We start trying to consciously control movements that should be happening automatically.

This "hyper-vigilance" actually creates muscle tension and disrupts the communication between you and your horse.

The fix?
Shift your focus “outward”

Instead of worrying about your heel position or your hand, focus on the rhythm of the hooves or a specific target in the arena.

Get out of your head and into the flow of your horse
