MATCH REPORT - CHAMPIONS 🏆 🍾 ⚽️

UNITED WIN THE WHARFEDALE TRIANGLE CHAMPIONS LEAGUE 🏆

On a red hot day at Fields Sports, both teams started the game as you’d expect a cup final. Very cagey with both sides not creating much. Will Beresford probably had United best chance of the half with his shot cleared of the line and the opposition side did hit the bar just before half time.

Both teams came out in the 2nd half with a bit more about them, United’s best chance of the game was when captain Toby Cunningham broke through on goal and struck the ball beautifully, however it was expertly saved by the Keighley keeper. With still no goals the ref blew his whistle for the end of the game. Straight to penalties…

With Skipton leading 2-1 on penalties, super George Gregson made an heroic save to his top left corner which put United in poll position. Skipton put away there next one, which was followed by another Keighley miss. This gave United the win 💪 🏆 🍾

We pause our celebrations from last night and head over to Field Sports Club tomorrow morning as we take on Skipton United FC in the Wharfedale Triangle League Champions League Cup. Our final game of the season and we look to make it 2 out of 2 for silverware this weekend🏆

⚽️ 🏆 WTFL CHAMPIONS LEAGUE FINAL 🏆⚽️

There is some of you that may not know, but Skipton United are folding at the end of this season, with Saturday football playing a big part, lads starting families, work ties, amongst other things etc… commitment isn’t what it used to be since we formed 5 years ago in 2020. That said, the lads have one game left and what a game to finish on, a cup final. One last chance for one more trophy🏆 United come up against local rivals Keighley Athletic, the exchanges when the two teams meet have always been close and feisty, so the game will have a real cup final taste to it and should be a cracking match. With it being the clubs last ever game we really would appreciate any support that can get over for this one 👏🏻 💪 ⚽️

WHARFEDALE TRIANGLE CHAMPIONS LEAGUE SEMI FINAL 🏆

United beat Mainline Social FC on Penalties to reach Cup Final 💪

Coming up against a strong Mainline side, Skipton knew they would have a game on their hands, as when both teams have met in the league, Mainline have came out 2-1 winners. This showed in the first 15 minutes as the away side started strong and managed to get an early goal with a great strike across goal. However United soon got in to the game and after some good work down the right hand side by Danny Hunts low driven cross found Will Beresford who put the ball away.

In to the 2nd half and Skipton pushed on having most of the possession throughout and plenty of chances to put the game to bed. The moment came in the 90th minute when winger Lewis Varey, beating his man and drilled the ball in the bottom corner…. The ball seemed to touch a United player in the box before hitting the back of the net and the linesman’s flag went up…. FT 1-1 and the game went straight to Penalties.

After some amazingly taken spot kicks from both sides the score sat at 6-6. George Gregson then pulled off a great save from Mainlines next kick, which meant if Skipton scored they’d be in the final. Up stepped Josh Green who tucked the ball away calmly for United to win 7-6 💪

WHARFEDALE TRIANGLE CHAMPIONS LEAGUE 🏆

United complete the Champions League Group Stage unbeaten and finish top of Group B 💪

With the lads already qualified for the semi final, this seemed to change the enthusiasm before kick off, especially with a 12 man squad again for the 2nd week in a row. However, United came straight out the blocks and scored 2 early goals, Danny Hunt with the first and a nice finish from Fred Midgley to get the second. From then Skipton seemed to be too relaxed and general sloppiness let their opponents get back in to the game conceding twice before half time. 2-2 at the break.

In to the 2nd half and United got that early goal again with some great work down the left by Will Barwick, who found Will Beresford to smash the ball home. Hats off to the away side who stuck at it and got another equaliser. The game seemed then to fizzle out, with the same scenario as previous games with United having multiple chances to win the game just couldn’t find the back of the net. FT 3-3.

United now have a semi final to look forward to - Sunday 27th April - get it in the dairy ⚽️

This Sunday, United play their final game in the Wharfedale Triangle Champions League Group Stage. Skipton host Throstle Nest who they played in their first game of the competition, coming away with 1-0 victory. The lads will be hoping for a similar result to go unbeaten in the group and finish top of the table. All support is much appreciated 👏🏻 💪 ⚽️

United make it 4 out of 4 in the Champions League Cup Competition and secure a semi final spot 💪

Skipton faced Saltaire for the 2nd time this season on Sunday. With only 12 players available & player/manager Fred Midgley having to go in goal the lads still made light work of the short tip over to Marley👌⚽️

Hats off to the home side who made it hard to break them down in the first half an hour, but it was Danny Hunt who ran through to put United ahead. Not long after it was Hunt again who nicely dinked the keeper to make it 2 before half time.

In to the 2nd half United started to play some decent football and Will Beresford made it 3. Jeremy Barker soon made it 4-0 with a tidy finish from a corner before Danny Hunt completed his hatrick 💪

United have 1 group game left this coming Sunday then a semi final to look forward to at the end of the month ⚽️
