The ‘fitness industry’ can often seem overwhelming, full of perpetual novelty activities and equipment, and overcomplicated fluff. Do you need overcomplicated activities and equipment for a balanced approach to ‘fitness’? For some continuous novelty might appeal, but what I offer with my coaching is a simple (not to be confused with easy), but effective approach to balance strength, mobility and cardiovascular fitness.

Keeping it simple and learning how to do the basics very well is what our sessions will be about. This will help you to develop a sustainable practice of ‘general physical preparedness’ that is a resource for your daily life, enabling you to achieve your goals, whether that might be building athletic ability for the sports or the activities that you love, giving you resilience against a world the forces you to be sedentary, or giving you the attributes to simply feel more robust and confident when it comes to day to day activities, such as’ moving well, carrying shopping, or picking up your kids. The benefits of feeling fitter, stronger and more able creates positive impacts on other areas of your life, and the scientific evidence that physical activity improves mental wellbeing is very well established.

The tool of choice will be the Kettlebell, it is an old but highly effective tool (it doesn’t connect to bluetooth) with the versatility to balance strength, mobility and cardiovascular conditioning. The kettlebell also offers you a sustainable method to do this if you so choose. For example, learn the basics well with me, then move on to simply owning three kettlebells and practicing at home, or in your garden, alone, or with friends, means that you don’t have to go out of your way to build your practice. It's part of your daily life, in the place you live your life.

Back in 1986 The World Health Organisation (WHO) stated that health is a resource for daily life, not the purpose of living, and that health is created in the places that we spend our daily lives. I would argue that developing a Kettlebell practice as part of your health behaviours embodies these important principles from the WHO.
