After mustering all my courage I attended Kiki’s yoga session on Monday evening. I needed courage because it’s absolutely YONKS since I have done any form of exercise! I’m overweight and menopausal so my body is really struggling!
I was instantly put at ease and made to feel welcome and relaxed! The session went soooo quickly (the old adage about time flying was proven right) and I felt a huge sense of achievement for having completed it!
I can not wait to go again next week!

Had my first one to one session with Kiki today. Top work, was just what I needed. She turned a stressed out newbie into a calm and collected yogi. After an initial consult last week, I had the session tailored to my needs. Kiki is patient and understanding and really knows her stuff. Added bonus, I can now drop "oh, yeah my yoga teacher..." into any random conversation just like a celebrity. I have already done this three times today. Why did I take so long to try yoga?

Turn to This Yin Yoga Practice When You're Feeling Helpless

It’s been a while since we have done a yin session.
I find this practice the toughest personally. Physical muscles engaging asanas are invigorating, endorphin producing. Rewarding! Yin reaches deep. How comfortable are you when you are stuck with yourself for a little while in a pose in silence? I have no clue whether it will be yin next week. I am letting this one brew. All I know is YOGA IS AMAZING!!!

🚴🏼‍♂️Oh my, if I had known how much fun this would be I would have tried it years ago. Fun for the whole family too! There may have have been a little adrenaline perk as this is the 3rd time I have been on a bike since I am a kid… and am now the proud owner of ….padded pants!🤣 and spray shorts! Don’t ask. Does not look 👀 cool once they have fulfilled their purpose. Had the most gentle of falls as lost speed and just toppled onto a bed of ferns. Total giggle. 🤣Having a blast trying new stuff!🚴🏼‍♂️

If you want to try something new, well you are most welcome. You don’t need padded pants for yoga! Unless that’s your thing. Just bring yourself and we’ll sort everything else out.

What a fab 6 weeks of yoga! It was all mantra, mudra and links to yoga and Buddhism history until it wasn’t and shook things up with callisthenics tonight! Yoga is exploring.
Diving deep within. Becoming conformable with the uncomfortable. No clue what we are doing after half term. Wishing everyone a great break. Can’t wait to see you again! 🤩
( the picture is of my mimosa potted tree. I need to find him a space to spread his root. Love him because he comes in full bloom towards the end of winter, when there is still darkness and he is a tree from the south of France where I come from. He was purchased at Mayfield nurseries which is a charity that promotes good mental health. 😍

I always wanted to give aerial yoga a try. A massive thank you to Veronique , Lauren and the SYA for putting on this event this Sunday and introducing us to this amazing practice. 😊🙏

Some of you may think that aerial yoga is a fad, so I would like to share what I gained from it. I have tight hamstrings and hips. Thanks to the support provided by the silks in the stretches I was able to relax and deepen some stretches and so I found comfort in some poses where I don’t usually find ease. The savasana hammock style still or swaying is totally regressive, the bubble of your hammock becomes your haven space. Inversions become effortless. BatKiki 🦇. I also tried out a handstand version Soooo good! Finally, it’s just plain fun! 😁🙌🏼

🌲🚴The theme of this week’s yoga lessons was cultivating a beginner’s mindset in life and yoga practice. With it comes the freedom of trying new things without expectations.🚴🏼‍♂️🧘‍♂️

I don’t always manage to practice what I teach but I always intend to. This week I have tried out new tech at my workplace, signed up for my first aerial yoga workshop and found myself riding a mountain bike through the forest. ( I thoroughly recommend Moors Valley Country Park). It’s been a brilliant!

But think it doesn’t have to be so literal, you can also understand the beginner’s mindset as seeing things as though they were through a fresh perspective, rediscovering the wonder in what may have seemed banal.

A lovely email I received from an experienced yogini on her first class with me on Monday. Many thanks for allowing me to share this Jane ( not my mum 😁😜) Yoga is an amazing practice.

Hi Kiki

I wanted to let you know how much I enjoyed yoga this evening.
It was such a nice chilled out atmosphere and I thought the class was great.
Really well thought out poses that flowed, I was able to push myself in some of the stretches but just the right amount so I don’t feel achy after the class.
I enjoyed using the mantra you introduced and I have always wanted to try mudra but didn’t know how so thank you for bringing that in.
Looking forward to next week’s class already.

Monday’s class wanted some back bends; back bends we did!
🌕☀️ This week, Wednesdays’ asked to dive deeper into Sun Salutations. So we really will!! 😊You are in for a treat. Yoga is such a rich practice that we will approach Sun Salutations from a practice of gratitude, explore its physical benefits, how it works on the chakras, become aware of the mantras associated with the 12 names of the sun, link it to its Hindu roots and see how it’s the perfect complement to the Moon Salutation. Tout un programme. Hatha it is! ☀️🌕

How I came to Yoga

Hello,

A little about me then.

I started yoga after a c-section as an attempt to strengthen my core and my spine. I was in a car crash in 2001 that resulted a serious lumbar fracture among other injuries. So, Yoga seemed like a gentle option to rebuild strength. I didn't realise that Yoga would turn into my life's passion. I have now been practising Yoga for 10 years with respected and knowledgeable Southampton teachers. I have gained so much more than I expected from practising Yoga. I began my teacher training in March 2018 with Laura Green Teaching and Mentoring and successfully completed the 200h TT course in November.

I teach Yoga because I want to share with people the amazing healing powers of Yoga on the mind and the body. My classes are a mixture of Hatha and Vinyasa style Yoga with a particular emphasis on alignment and developing core strength. The mat is where we will play, take care of ourselves, let go and connect with ourselves and others. I am a great believer in the message that "Yoga is for everybody and every body" so finding suitable ways to make asanas accessible to all bodies is paramount. To help; poses will be modified or we might use props and/or hands on assists.
