Mega excited for my first session tomorrow!
So my story is... I’ve always been this weight either half a stone heavier or lighter... I’m a runner, happily plod along all day, but my general strength is poor.
Since 1st January I’ve been healthy eating, no fizzy drink or bad stuff at all. With this I’ve managed to loose 7lbs, not a lot to some but to loose 1lb a week and keep it off can harder than loosing 5lb in a week which would get put back on within a month.
I’ve just been writing my food diary out ready (copy from my app) while measuring out this weeks meals preps and can honestly say, only 50g here and there I seem to have misled myself.
So I’ve learned tonight, measure properly, zero off them scales and take into account that dash on milk in a coffee, the squeeze of honey on my porridge.

The Snowdon spam continues 🏔

Climbing a mountain is much like working towards any of our goals. We don’t instantly get to the top or where we want to be.

It takes time, hundreds and thousands of small steps to get to the top.

Some parts are easier and others are really quite hard! 🥵

You don’t see all these parts, you see the things I want you to see! The amazing views, the smiling photos!

My highlights just like everyone else’s fitness or health journey being documented on Instagram.

You see peoples successes and not necessarily all the hard work that gets put in to achieve it!

Be in your own lane, focus on you, take time to stop and reflect to appreciate your progress! Be proud of yourself!

If you want to go climb a mountain go climb a mountain! You can do ANYTHING you set your mind to! 💛

Today has consisted of a workout, breakfast in the garden, a failed trip to B&Q who knew everything was closed on Easter Sunday. Lunch & Sweets followed by a forest walk in the sunshine and a relaxed evening at home!

I don’t always post client progress photos as progress isn’t always measured by a photo!

These results are through lifestyle changes alone consistent calories and consistent movement.

No gym programme, no fad diets or supplements, no social restrictions!

Being consistently good is better than being inconsistently perfect.

I can see those longer warmer days coming for us!

Lockdown walks forever keeping me sane. I’ve officially made it a thing, to walk by the water once a week!

It brings me so much joy. Sun or rain it brings some much needed mental clarity.

This is a rough guide but an average cycle is 28 days. Some longer some shorter.

Throughout the month a bunch of our hormones fluctuate but mostly these are oestrogen and progesterone. Ever wondered why one day in the gym you feel strong and energised and others you are feeling tired and everything feels super heavy. Not to mention our moods and appetite.

We have two stages to our cycle which I will outline below:

Follicular phase

📌 Increased levels of oestrogen
📌 Progesterone is low
📌 Mood and energy levels improve and we feel GOOD
📌 Hunger levels tend to be lower at this time

If you are training you may feel stronger, you may feel more motivated and energised and you may even hit some PB’s.

Just before ovulation we have a spike in testosterone so the gym may feel even better!

Luteal phase

📌 Oestrogen decreases
📌 Progesterone increases
📌 PMS this is the time you will be feeling it
📌 You may feel bloated, fatigued and lack in energy
📌 Increase in body temperature and metabolic rate meaning we may burn an additional 100-300 calories

If you are training the weights you were lifting at the start of your cycle may feel heavier, you may feel sluggish and how you feel about your progress may change
It doesn’t mean you are not making progress

You could combat this by lowering the weight and increasing the volume, focus on bodyweight movements and technique or work on your mobility.

Some of us may not notice any of these changes but some of us might.

Understanding why can help you tweak things in your day to day to keep you feeling positive. 💛

Hands up who warms up before a workout?

My warm up used to consist of a little jog on a treadmill. But now I’ve learned the importance of mobilising and activating my muscles before a workout, in particularly my core and not just raising my heart rate.

This was my movement prep and activation for a full body session yesterday!

Combine a movement flow like this with daily stretching and you’ll be surprised and how much better you feel in a workout and just in your day to day.

This is not a diet! Dieting over Christmas can be more difficult but we all want to get to January and not feel like a sloth.

If you want accountability over December this is for you.

What do you mean by accountability?

To not forgot about your health & fitness in December, to limit the Christmas weight gain and to stay as active as you can during the month of December.

Deadlifts

I left these out for a long time! After practicing core drills and stripping back my technique I am starting to see some progress.

💪🏻Bracing my core and not just sticking my bum out.

💪🏻 Engaging my lats and creating tension in my upper body by trying to break the bar! (It’s good to practice this and not actually lift the bar)

💪🏻Think about pushing the floor like a leg press not pulling the bar off the ground.

I think these are some of the takeaway points for me!

I read a quote on Instagram recently and it’s really stuck with me.

“Run the day or let the day run you”

Over the past few weeks I have told myself this every single day. For me this starts by getting up early and moving my body. Most days that’s lifting or doing some form of workout.

This kickstarts how I want to run my day! That quote has made a big difference, I hope it helps you if you need it too!💛

Are you being realistic with what you are setting out to achieve? Wanting to lose 2 stone in 4 weeks is not a great start!

Do you feel like a failure if the scales don’t drop quick enough? Remember the scales fluctuate daily this does not mean you have not made progress or put on body fat, look at other forms of progress!

Are you over-restricting? Lowering your calories drastically and removing food you enjoy from your diet. Feeling miserable as your diet is so extreme.

Giving up because you have made your diet impossible to stick to. Don’t feel bad for this take some time to reflect on why it didn’t work for you and then put a plan into place to find what does!

If I knew how exercise would make me feel then as I did now.

I have consciously not shared many transformation photos from my online clients, as a photo does not tell the story.

The story of waking up and feeling great, fitting into clothes again, sleeping better, moving more, looking in the mirror and showing yourself a little bit of love, having some chocolate and knowing you’ve not ruined your diet.

A photo can be posed and altered. A photo does not show or tell you how someone is feeling or show the knowledge they have gained.

But Instagram is a place for photos and today I want to share this one with you.
