Bat Watch ๐ฆ
Itโs been a very busy few weeks for us! On bank holiday Monday we did our first ever bat survey at Bartley Park. We think we detected:
๐ฆ Common and Soprano Pipistrelles
๐ฆ Lesser Horseshoes
๐ฆ Serotines
๐ฆ Daubentons
We also had time for a run and testing out the dog park before it got dark! Friends of Bartley Park are doing a great job supporting wildlife in the park and making it a lovely space for the community.

Happy 3rd Birthday to us! ๐
What a fantastic evening to celebrate our birthday. Three years ago we had our very first gathering at Aldermoor of local people who wanted to be involved in Southampton GoodGym. And look at what we have achieved since! Strong community connections, real impact for local nonprofit organisations, fitness and friendships. Thereโs even a GG baby and weโve lost count of how my GG cats ๐คฃ Everything we have done has been achieved through a fantastic and growing group of like-minded volunteers wanting to make a difference in their community. Toad patrols, bus cleaning, litter picking, helping maintain graves at the old cemetery, turning compost, helping chickens on the way to their new homes, cutting back brambles, marshalling charity runs, slug hunting, Santaโs grotto building (and elf-ing!) and brick cleaning. Weโve done it all. Every task big or small makes a difference.
Happy Birthday Southampton GoodGymers ๐ It was so great to see everyone old and new. It doesnโt matter how long itโs been, youโll always be welcome. We even had a visitor from ๐ Hereโs to another year of doing good, keeping fit, chatting too much, eating cakeโฆand taking silly photos! ๐คฉ

Last night we were supporting the Great British Spring Clean ๐๏ธ In an hour we cleared 5 sacks of cans and as many bags with other rubbish. The cans will be given to Team Totton who collect them to raise money for the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance. So itโs a double good deed! We also had to report a knife which was collected by the police. So not only did we make Southampton cleaner we also made it safer ๐ Swipe to see our most incredible before and after yet!!
We will be back picking again next week so head to website now and come join us to show a little love to the streets of Southampton. And if you know a spot in Southampton which could use a little love and tidy up please get in touch with us and weโll see what we can do.

We need more toad patrollers! Come join a session and help those toads cross the road ๐ธ
Due to the drop in temperature and dry day Saturday, no patrol was carried out. The temperatures look like they are fluctuating in and out of the prefered range along with intermittent rain in the coming week so we will continue looking for toads. As the focus has been on getting new patrollers trained up I have yet to get to Embley lane but it has not been forgotten.
SUNDAY SUMMARY
A HUMUNGOUS thank you to all of our volunteers for being out in the cold wet evenings and to the drivers for your patience!
This week's numbers for Ryedown lane are:
Toads: 31
Frogs: 2
Newts: 7
TOTAL SAVED: 40
Total casualties: 120
Total number of patrollers: 17 including 5 under 16s (up to this week it was just me)!!!
We need more patrollers, please email [email protected] to get started. No experience necessary.
