How do you downdog? Upper back strength is so important to stop you from rounding forward too much (heard of text neck?), and to keep you standing tall. Keeping this same area mobile will help you relax your shoulders and you'll feel comfortable all day long! This month's focus: upper back and shoulders, and a little downdog alignment 😉

In other news, I got a job! I started a couple of weeks ago as a school health nurse. No, nothing to do with nits, and all to do with keeping kids safe, healthy, and happy. Being only a few weeks in, it still feels very new and different, but I'm looking forward to being a fully functioning member of the team in due course. It is part-time, so I'm combining it with teaching yoga - the best of both worlds! (I have borrowed the pic from https://images.app.goo.gl/xsuFhxwqe3HAh5zT6)

How to choose a yoga mat | Om Yoga Magazine

Feeling excited to be getting the word out about yoga mats and sustainability... my series on how to choose an eco-friendly yoga mat has been taken up by OM Yoga Magazine. All three parts are on their website, and part of it will be in print too! https://www.ommagazine.com/how-to-choose-a-yoga-mat/

How to choose an eco-friendly yoga mat; alternatives to PVC - Live Well Yoga

How to choose an eco-friendly yoga mat; alternatives to PVC - so far I have discussed what the desirable properties of a yoga mat are, and why you should avoid one made of PVC. This time around I want to discuss other materials that yoga mats can be made from.

But first, remember, there is no material that doesn’t have a cost for the environment, or animal and human health, it’s just a matter of how much of a cost.... read on https://live-well-yoga.co.uk/alternatives-to-pvc/

Why your brain loves it when you exercise, plus 3 easy ways to work out at home

Start by thinking of exercise — or any movement — as part of your daily routine for caring for your body, like brushing your teeth. And start small and realistic, you don't have to run a marathon straight away, but if you walk around the block, who knows where it will take you!

Why your brain loves it when you exercise, plus 3 easy ways to work out at home Small space? No equipment? Can’t make noise? There are still a surprising number of ways to exercise at home — and the benefits you’ll gain are real and lasting, says neuroscienti…

How to choose an eco-friendly yoga mat; three reasons why it shouldn’t be made of PVC - Live Well Yoga

It might come as a surprise to you, as it certainly did to me, that although yoga appears to be linked to harmony with the natural world, and environmentally friendly living, the one piece of equipment that all of us use – the yoga mat – is none of this.

That is because the majority of yoga mats are made of polyvinyl chloride (PVC). Find out about the sustainability of this material, and the health implication of using it for humans and the natural environment, so that you can be better informed when it comes to choosing an eco-friendly yoga mat. https://live-well-yoga.co.uk/no-to-pvc/

23/11/2020

A new student recently asked me how they should chose which yoga mat to buy, and, after dispensing my wisdom, I thought I would write it all down for anyone else that is interested.

You might be surprised to know that I am in no way encouraging you to go out and buy a new mat immediately. In fact, after starting to investigate the environmental credentials of yoga mats, I have made a resolution not to buy another one if I can help it. There is no getting away from the fact that the vast majority of yoga mats are made from new plastic. I don't want, or need, any more of that in my life.

For those of you who are in the market for a new mat you should consider your needs for cushioning, grip, and weight. So, if that is you, or you are just interested, read on...

A strange year, like we have never experienced. But it’s August, hopefully time for some ‘time out’.

I love holidays!

I really live for them. That said, I don’t know many people who don’t. Although, strangely enough my own father doesn’t. Hates them, never goes, ever. I had to get married to ensure that he came over to England to see me.

When I started to look into holidays in more detail, it turns out they aren’t just a good time, they are really important for good mental health. Read on to find out the benefits of holidays, and how to fit in yoga whilst you're away. https://live-well-yoga.co.uk/happy-holidays/
