β€œWhen you have a neurotypical child, you feel reasonably assured that class participation and decent study habits will result in good grades. These kids have close friends. They get invited to participate in social things like birthdays, play dates and weekend gatherings. They make the teams, auditions and are always busy doing something fun with their friends.

But when you have a child with certain differences, this is often not the case. Learning may take longer, both academically and socially. Despite their tremendous efforts, results are often a fraction of their peers and social acceptance is fleeting, setting them up for painful comparisons and bitter frustration. Instead of a fun and fulfilling experience, school can become a breeding ground for depression and anxiety, and homework a battle ground at home. It is exhausting for parents and child alike.

This is the week of SPED (Special Education), Autism, Dyslexia, and ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder) awareness. For all the children who struggle every day to succeed in a world that does not recognize their gifts and talents, and for those who are walking beside them, please let this be a gentle reminder to be kind and accepting of ALL people.

Recognize that the "playing field" is not always a level surface.

Children who learn differently are not weird. They are merely gifted in ways that our society does not value enough. Yet they want what everyone else wants: To be accepted.

Please help me share awareness of this. Copy and paste (by touching and holding the text) onto your profile in honour of all children who are deemed "different". Our world would be far less beautiful without them.

It is with great sadness that I have to inform all pupils that I am unable to hold any lessons this year.

We awaited the announcement from Boris for so long as to when pools could open, and eventually we were given the date of 25th July.

I was hoping to hold intensive week swim lessons for 5 weeks from 27th July, this would have enabled all swimmers to catch up and be in a great position to continue as usual from September.

Because one of my neighbours made a complaint 4 years ago, despite all other neighbours supporting my swim school, Eastleigh Borough Council made restrictions upon my lawful certificate to trade and allow me only to run during term time.

I fully expected that considering I have been unable to run lessons for four months, due to the lockdown, that they would agree to me running lessons for 5 weeks during the summer holidays.
Unfortunately the council have said that I am not allowed to run lessons. Although I made my first enquiry on 6th April, which was never replied to, they have now said following a further enquiry on 9th July, that I need to make a formal planning application which will take 8 weeks to deal with!

Despite pleading and explaining to the council that my swimmers will lose a whole year of learning due to all centres reducing class sizes, and there being no lessons available, and that pupils come to me due to small classes, and that pupils with additional needs have nowhere else to go, that this will leave all pupils vulnerable around water, I have still had no joy 😒

I’m totally bewildered and devastated not be able to open my swim school this year.
I would really appreciate, if you’re as bewildered and devastated as me, if you could email your concerns regarding your swimmers wellbeing and safety around water, to EBC – [email protected]

If you have paid for the first term this year please email or text your bacs details and I will refund your fees.

I really hope you see you all back next April, when hopefully things will be back to normal!!

Wishing you all to stay safe and well, please don’t hesitate to ask if you want any help and advice on helping your children to stay safe in and around water.

Coronavirus (COVID-19): what you need to do

As it is less than 4 weeks until lessons are due to start I thought I would keep in touch regarding the current Coronavirus situation.

I’m sure you are all well aware of the current guidance we need to all follow from the government - https://www.gov.uk/coronavirus

They have said that this guidance will be reviewed in 3 weeks.

If the restrictions don’t change, I will be unable to open for lessons on 20th April. :{

If lessons can’t start on 20th April, assuming restrictions will permit, I will run on through the summer months to make up lost lessons.

I will be in touch nearer the time to confirm when lessons can start.
I will be ready to go as soon as we are able to!

Let me know if you have any questions.

Please all take care, stay home, stay safe, see you all soon,

Best Wishes
Senga
