Game 5 and the ship keeps sailing 🛳️

We faced yet another top class side, in PDC, who operate with such precision and confidence and their football is truly a joy to watch!

1st third -

As expected having faced this side a number of times over the years, PDC jumped straight on the front foot and looked to stamp their authority early on. Ronnie was put to work straight away and lived up to the challenge head on, pulling off numerous top class saves to keep us from going behind. After the early onslaught, which Millbrook did very well to survive, we started to grow into the game. Chances for the Dockers were limited, but a defence splitting ball found Freddie, who r***ed it above the goalkeepers head, into the top of the net, to give us a somewhat surprising lead.

2nd third -

With both teams now settled into the game, this period was a much less one sided affair. Millbrook’s confidence was growing, and the opposition chasing, leading to an end to end period where both sides will have felt unlucky not to score.

3rd third -

Chaos. PDC finally, and probably deservedly, found the magic key to unlock the door to scoring, to make the game level. A shot that made its way through a crowded penalty area made it hard for the outstanding Ronnie to keep his clean sheet. The Dockers responded immediately, when Max found himself with half a yard just outside the box, to side foot it into the top corner to restore the Millbrook lead. PDC once again piled on the pressure and got themselves level again just minutes later when a corner was turned in at the near post. In a moment where it would’ve been easy to cave, Millbrook did everything but that, once again, responding to the setback almost instantly. A quick thinking kick in from Marwan found Max on the edge of the box, and was able to slot it into the bottom corner with his left foot! Another wave of attacks came from the opposition but the Dockers stood firm!

MOTM - Max was once again outstanding and proved why he’s such an important piece of this puzzle! More impressively than his 5 goals in 5 games to start the season, he can play absolutely anywhere, and do the job asked of him. One of the hardest working players you’re likely to see, who very clearly never takes no for an answer!

Huge amount of respect to our opponents who pushed us right to the end, and play honestly beautiful football themselves!

We move onto the next 💪🏽

Game 4 🤫

We faced off with Proco who initially are in the league above us. 2 teams that know each other well. Millbrook were in for a tough day only having the bare 7 available in very hot conditions.

1st third -

Proco started the game on the front foot, immediately putting us under pressure. It took just a few minutes for Proco to find themselves ahead through an effort from range that made its way through a lot of bodies, making it difficult for Ronnie to have any real chance of keeping it out. The goal was a wake up call for Millbrook who from that point went toe to toe with the opposition.

2nd third -

The game really came alive in the 2nd period. Both teams going head to head battling for every ball. Millbrook upped a gear and played with intensity and purpose. We drew level through some quick thinking from Max, who took a very quick kick in which found Will, who could turn it home to get the Dockers back on level terms, and get his first goal in a Millbrook shirt.

3rd third -

Despite only having the bare 7 to the oppositions 10, Millbrook showed no signs of slowing down, whenever you’d think they were getting leggy, the lads somehow managed to find that next gear to keep on going. Both teams were doing absolutely everything they could to break the deadlock. Millbrook defended for their lives, limiting the oppositions chances on goal, while we were able to make the Proco goalkeeper work to keep his side level. Halfway through the period, Max found himself grabbing his 3rd goal of the season after a cool finish in a packed box. Millbrook from that point, controlled the game with extreme discipline and maturity to see the game out!

A cagey and aggressive affair which resulted in the Dockers finding a way once again.

MOTM - Will was absolutely brilliant today! After only signing for us at the end of last week, was thrown right into the deep end with this one! He covered an unbelievable amount of ground all game long and didn’t let off at any single moment. Defensively he was brilliant and in attack he was even better, getting his name on the scoresheet in just his second appearance for the team!

Game 3 and it’s 3’s all round🤩

Millbrook, by their standards, endured a nightmare start. Berks Elite came flying out the traps, not allowing Millbrook to find any sort of rhythm and found themselves ahead midway through the first period. The Dockers chances were limited being unable to really get a foot on the ball.

The second period was unfortunately more of the same, scrappy and completely unable to get a foot hold in the game. Berks found themselves 2 ahead once again midway through the period. Millbrook did though finally come alive towards the end of the period, where we were eventually able to carve out a couple of chances and make the opposition keeper start his days work.

With encouraging signs towards the end of the second period, the break gave us a chance to really get through to each other and go out and push in the final period. We knew we had a huge task on our hands if we were to get anything from the game, but Millbrook came out with hunger and determination. The penny finally dropped when we managed to break through, after some last ditch defending, Freddie found himself with the ball halfway up the pitch, held off his marker and played a beautifully weighted and perfectly executed left footed pass, into the path of Junior, who added to his impressive tally for the start of the season, and gave Millbrook some hope. A few minutes later Freddie battled his way through a few defenders into the box, and was eventually brought down and awarded a penalty. He placed the ball on the penalty spot and slotted it home to get us back on level terms. The comeback was well and truly on and with 6 minutes left to play, a long ball into the box was knocked down to Max 15 yards from goal, a half volley right into the top corner, left everyone absolutely stunned. We weren’t sure if Aaron’s free kick last week could be topped but Max certainly gave it a good go with this wonder strike!

An up and down game with the boys managing to find the finishing touch when it mattered!

MOTM - Freddie was absolutely brilliant, really gave us a platform to work off at the end of the second period, and then set us on our way with a coolly taken goal and a fantastic assist in the third period!

Game 2 sees us face off with Wiltshire RTC as we look to add to last weeks success!

1st third-

Millbrook started the game lightning fast, getting themselves ahead early on where a ball across the box fell to the feet of Max who was able to slot it home at the far post. The boys got their foot on the ball and controlled the game from the off, keeping possession and progressing up the pitch. Junior then carried on his form from last week to give us the 2nd, which he then added to from the penalty spot just minutes later.

2nd third -

We started this period in the same form, when Jack stole the ball following an opposing goal kick, drove into the space in front of him and stuck the ball in the bottom corner to give us more comfort. Aaron then produced a free kick which premier league players would be proud of, and one we’ve been waiting well over a year for! From 20 yards out he managed to find the top corner leaving everyone astounded!

3rd third -

Marwan then went on one of his signature tricky runs, skipping past 3 players, driving into the box and managed to slot the ball into the far bottom corner to round off a move he is extremely good at! Our standards began to drop with 10 minutes to go, and we found ourselves picking the ball up out of our own net twice within a matter of minutes.

The boys were absolutely incredible for the majority of the game, really taking the training ground to the pitch for large parts of the game and reaping the rewards of their effort and focus in training sessions!

MOTM - Aaron, solid throughout the full game, beautifully timed tackles, advancing into space well and his passing was on point, rounded off with a spectacular free kick goal!

The curtain raiser did not disappoint!🤩

The Dockers kicked off their JPL season with an impressive performance against tough opposition in BRS. With only 8 players available and a turbulent pre season, the boys had it all to do against a well drilled and disciplined opposition!

1st third -

The first period was back and forth with both teams playing some brilliant pieces of football, and chances being created at both ends of the pitch. Midway through the period, a move that started from our new #1 Ronnie, made its way up the pitch through crisp passes and intelligent movement, into the feet of Ralph who’d found himself skip past a defender, and r***e the ball into the top corner to break the deadlock. With a few minutes left to play in the first period, our opponents found themselves back on level terms through a penalty.

2nd third -

During the break the boys were asked to just keep doing what they were doing, they enjoyed large parts of the ball, creating multiple chances and testing the opposition keeper consistently. We finally got ourselves back ahead after another piece of brilliant play and a ball across the box, leaving Junior to slip it back the goalkeeper.

3rd third -

Towards the end of the 2nd third, the opposition began piling on the pressure, so following a few words of encouragement and a couple of tweaks, The Dockers started fast, putting the opposition on the back foot. Jack was able to steal the ball high up the pitch and set us on our way, having a shot from distance which forced the opposition goalkeeper to make a strong save. Jack picked up the loose ball and this time had Junior for support and he found his feet and junior was able to slot it home to extend the lead. With pressure mounting and 5 minutes left to play, the opposition pulled one back. Millbrook stood strong and worked very hard to protect what they had, all the way to the final whistle!

A game where the boys showed they can play 2 types of games, they can move the ball about and play the pretty football, and they can also do what it takes to get over the line!

MOTM 🏆
Junior - 2 coolly taken goals and was an absolute workhorse, closing down, pressing, winning the ball back, and putting his team on the front foot!

Onto the next 🏗️
