Millbrook U10 JPL

Today’s cup game saw us take on Bournemouth electric. Currently 2 from 2 in the competition, we were hungry to continue.

We started the game extremely strong, piling on the pressure from the off and creating plenty of chances that we unfortunately just couldn’t convert, and saw ourselves go into the first break a goal down after an unbelievable strike from an opposing player, against the run of play.

At the break, Millbrook were asked to just keep doing what they were doing, and they would eventually reap the rewards. We managed to get back on level terms after being awarded a penalty, which was won, and then cooly slotted home by junior.

The third period was where Millbrook really turned it on. Once again, lumping on the pressure, creating chance after chance, playing beautiful football when they could, and being direct when they needed to. We eventually got ourselves ahead when Freddie took the ball under control, drew 2 opposing players in, and slotted the ball right into the path of Ralph who rifled it home. A few minutes later similar happened, Fred once again took control of the ball, stood strong and firm and laid it off to junior who wrapped the ball into the far post to seal a well deserved result.

MOTM - Freddie - a performance that can only be described as magical. His forward play was just pure excellence! Holding up the ball and bringing people into play, being direct and driving his team up the pitch, chasing, tracking, pressing. The passes to carve open the opposition defence were pinpoint every single time and earned himself 2 beautiful assists. He truly had it all today. Well done Freddie!

WE DONE IT!!!

After being invited down to staplewood this morning for a U10 Tournament which included the best teams in Hampshire, we ran away winners of the whole tournament, credit where credit is due to these boys they had to grit there teeth at points and win ugly which they done. It’s such a pleasure coaching a talented group of players.

Our return from the Christmas break had us face off with Socca, as we take a step up into the top league of JPL. The game was a 50/50 battle throughout, with both teams going at each other but unable to carve out any real chances. Millbrook stepped it up a gear in the second period, piling on the pressure and mounting wave after wave of attacks. We had a huge chance halfway through when we managed to squeeze the ball through the defence and past the keeper, which was unfortunately ruled out by the ref as he thought it didn’t make it over the line. This fuelled Millbrook to keep pushing, forcing the opposition keeper in to action time and time again but he was determined not to be beaten. Millbrook were barely threatened throughout the game until the final few minutes, when the opposition played a long ball and left their striker with a tap in. A day where rust played its part and that sprinkle of luck was missing, but a solid performance in Millbrooks first game in the top league nonetheless!

MOTM - Max - another top drawer performance, building on his very impressive last few games. His defence awareness, carrying of the ball, and precision of his passes was once again absolutely spot on!

Please also welcome our new number 10, we’ve managed to drag him over from the island to play for us and give us a massive boost in the attacking area of the pitch, please welcome RALPH.

This weeks game had us face off with Wiltshire RTC, in a game where we looked to turn the tide and flip our recent fortunes on the head. Before the game, the boys were asked to do 3 things, relax, be confident, and have fun. They did all those things and more and thoroughly reaped the rewards! They got back to their best, being confident and positive on the ball, brilliant rotational movements, and taking full advantage of creating and using passing triangles to carve open the opposition. We started the game extremely strong and followed suit throughout, relentlessly testing the opposition keeper, who was in top form for the most part of the game. Millbrook really showed up this week and played like they had a point to prove, and prove a point they did! We hope to take this very strong performance into next week!

MOTM - a joint MOTM this week with 2 very strong performances. First up - Max - a performance we know he has always had in him, and today he finally showed what he’s all about. Playing the majority of the game in a fairly new position, and dominated in his areas of the pitch throughout. Brilliant driving through the opposition to set up attacks, and covering so much ground to keep them at bay at the other end! Secondly - Caleb - Another player who took up a new position today, and absolutely bossed it, his timing, positioning, awareness and tackling was everything we’d want from someone playing in the position he did. His vision to pick passes out to set us on our way multiple times gave us so many opportunities!
