Loved the Workshop in Brighton at the beginning of the month. Still continuing to handstand daily. Practicing against a wall here so I can master getting the balance right - getting there slowly!
Is there an age restriction for Sundays workshop please?
I had a great handstand workshop with Kuba today. He explained things simply and little by little so that we can build our confidence. I still have to practice but I know how now. Thank you Kuba!
Handstand workshop is brilliant
Hey Kuba! When is your next movement workshop? 😉
🏆🎉 🆓 & stuff

I got a little give away contest for my handstand workshops in Southampton starting from the end of November:

Learning some rolling techniques and how to move softly with Sue @handstandatsixty earlier today!

I totally love working with Sue as she's always giving it 100%!

As her main goal, Sue is learning handstands - perhaps at a bit later time than most of us, but I am really confident she can get there with some smart planning and consietent work.

She has no excuses and doesn't let her age define what's she's capable of.

Do you?

It all starts with having a plan, sticking to it, following progressive overload protocol and not doing too much too soon.

No amount of creams, collagen pills and positive affirmations will treat your sprains and tendonitis.

Structured strength training will.

If you need any help with structuring a plan for your recovery, DM me.

Couple photos from a great photoshoot that we had the other day with @marulla_photography

If you're from Southampton area and want to get some professional photos for yourself or your business - give @marulla_photography a follow and DM him to chat about your project! :) *hey, psst, do it now, don't wait, lol*

Always pleasure to hang out and work with you bro ❤️

I got so many more awesome pics from Marek that I am going to use on my website and in other projects 🤙🏻 can't wait to share more of his work with you!

Huffing and puffing and the reality of playing with something new.

Not quite happy with how this or that looks like, but at the end of the day the only thing that matters is:

Did it feel good?

And for me that's 100 times better approach over asking:

Was it right/correct/perfect?

What's yours go-to light rest day activity?

I had a little fun play session with my contact staff yesterday

Finding more low intensity ways to play while giving my body rest after couple solid days of strength training and climbing

Juggling, rail/beam balancing, slackline and contact staff are one of my favourite ones 🤙🏻

Play session with the staff inspired by @kamilsick94 ❤️

Couple bits from Kirsty's (one of my amazing remote clients!) movement and locomotion practice this week
@richandbird

Massive progress with strength, mobility and body awareness over last couple months. And the dodgy knee is not so dodgy anymore 🙌🏻

This video represents the playful part of Kirsty's practice on top of the structured strength and mobility training.

What's the use of your strength and mobility if you only use it to test your strength and mobility in a single context? For some it might be enough, for us, it is definitely not.

Building strong, happy and resilient bodies 💪🏻

Interested in finding ways to increase your movement capacity, manage your injuries through strength training or learning something that will make your exercise routine more enjoyable?

DM me and let me show you what you're capable of 🙃

Kirsty: 'I have seen improvements in my strength, flexibility and agility. I have found this type of training sustainable over time as it fits well into my life in terms of work and the other sport I do'

Get better at doing the specific skill VS get better at struggling.

Conversation snippet I had with my client @georgie_taylordarke who's a swim coach.

Some great insights, thanks Georgie! 🙌🏻

Specificity is an absolute key when it comes to making the desired outcomes/adaptations

When you're learning a skill/discipline, break it down and work on specific action of that skill/discipline.

Want to learn muscle ups? Practice explosive pull ups and band assisted muscle ups

Want climb better? Learn how to climb more efficiently and technically, learn the specific skills that allow you to assume better position on the wall

Do you want to learn how to hold a handstand while WALKING on your hands? Not gonna happen...

Put 10000 hours in doing whatever, and you'll get whatever 🤷‍♂️

Are you going to spend next couple months or years preparing, taking courses and constantly learning until you mastered your craft and then (MAYBE) you'll feel like you're ready to start that project/job/business/hobby?
.

Or are you going to dive deep, head first and learn things as you go through experience, failures and successes?

.

The choice is yours.

.

Circumstances never will be perfect

.

You're never be ready enough

.

Never as prepared as you'd like to be

.

In fact, while waiting  for that moment, you'll most likely  miss the optimal time for getting started

.

Which is now or AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.

.

Before things get worse, and the current sub-optimal circumstances turn into another full on crisis of some sort.

.

You're 30% ready? Maybe that's as high as it will ever get.

.

Taking action is the way. No matter how small, take the steps and make some moves, you'll only regret  if you don't.  #MakeMoves

.

Are you gonna take the actions this week, keep on learning, writing things down and deepening the grooves of fear and hesitation?

.

Take care (and actions!)

Kuba

Looking for some alternatives to 'traditional' squats and deadlifts?
.
Nordic curls and knees over toes / ATG split squats are pretty good things to get you started as enthusiastically promoted by @kneesovertoesguy
.
Over the years of my own training, I found that because of my torso to femur (thigh bone) ratio, poor ankle mobility + past lower back problems I don't click very well with traditional squats and deadlifts. Add some hip impingement on top of that and deep squatting  with extra weight on the barbell and I am just repeatedly micro-tearing through the labrum (a small bit of soft cartilage tissue allowing for smooth movement in the joint) of my hips.
.
Could I try harder and eventually improve all these lifts and address the issues that make my squats and deadlifts sh*t / suboptimal? Maybe, but what if I can use the movements that are more optimal for the mechanics of my own body rather than having to use ThE Gr£t3sT L!fT$ oF a11 t! mEs (excuse the gym bro language)
.
In my case, I am quite confident that  I am far better doing things like sissy squats, nordic curls, split squats, single leg deadlifts etc. as opposed to traditional squats and deads. These exercises allow me to use my lower-body more, as most traditional lifts force me to use more of my lower back than my glutes, hamstrings and quads.
.
For me, it's just just the matter of greater benefit to risk ratio.
.
And the gains I made from doing nordic curls and ATG split squats over last year? Oh my, never before I had such a consistent and sustainable rate of improvement of my lower body strength.
.
Did you f**k your lower back again doing back squats or conventional deadlifts? Well, maybe it's your technique, maybe it's too much too soo etc.
.
Or maybe the exercises you've chosen are not optimal for the mechanics of your body.
.
Happy to help if you're looking for some exercise alternatives that would be more optimal for YOU.
.
Bring on the sandbags in couple months and less conventional lifts! 🙂 For some inspiration in terms of less conventional lifts go to @strongcamps

A solid handstand snippet from today's remote coaching session with @georgie_taylordarke 🎉

She totally nailed this drill today, months of hard work and sticking to the training programme with adequate intensity pays off 👌🏻
.
Focus of today's session was hand/wrist adjustments for handstands. 💪🏻

Slow down, you'll get much further at a slower pace
.
#NotesToSelf
.
Are you going all out this week again?
.
Heading to crash into the wall head first?

.

Overworking, over-self-developing, over-self-medicating, overtraining, over-giving-yourself-to-others, over-ignoring-your-own-needs...

.

Does that all sound familiar?

.

Pause for a moment.

.

Give yourself permission to rest, please, just slow the f**k down before it's too late.

.

You're more important than the project you're working on, regardless of how far you need to stretch yourself to meet the demands of it.

.

Validate how you feel and your need to pause and rest.

.

No. Not next week, not until the next holiday, until that job promotion, until the end of this project.

.

Otherwise, it might creep up on you where you've got the least amount of energy to deal with it.

.

You know something needs to change now.

.

Maybe you just need to carve out that extra half an hour of your day to get that more sleep and wake up less tired/angry/anxious the next day.

.

Maybe you need to stop thinking, and start doing - despite how unprepared you feel about it.

.

Maybe it's that calming 20-min walk during lunchbreak that you need to give yourself to zoom out and gain some more clarity.

.

Maybe it's your priorities that need to change.

.

Maybe the ones you've gotten in the past haven't gotten updated to the current demands and stressors that are placed upon you now.

.

Appreciate how far you've gone, even if it's not half way through to where you want to be

.

You'll get where you want to be at much slower pace

.

Life is a marathon, not a sprint

.

Even though marathons are hard, they're not made out of sprints.

.

This is a note to myself. This is also too all of you. I care about you, please take care about yourself, as none else can.

.

Dedicated to all of us who didn't manage to keep it together until:

.

the end of the project

Yesterday's exploration of some floor work / locomotions kind of stuff. Speed x2.
.
Looking for some transitions and trying to semi-improvise. 👌🏻
.
Didn't feel like sharing this one as it felt quite rough around the edges, but then one must tell that inner critic cunt to stfu and do stuff regardless, so here it is.
.
Anyway, enjoy your weekend and don't feed your inner perfectionist too much, do sh*t you're supposed to do regardless ❤️

Client Journey
.
Sarah's been my client for several years now.
.
A year ago when we went into a lockdown, we had to transition to online coaching.
.
Has she been sceptical about making it work?
.
A little bit... I mean, most of my clients have been and I thought to myself that coaching online must be really challenging and I wasn't that confident that I'd get my clients results that they wanted... Little did I know then...
.
So... did it actually work?
.
Abso*******lutely!
.
This is what Sarah said:
.
'All round I’ve gained strength & stability especially in my loose body. I’ve always put my weight through my left side which has left my right side weaker & unstable. This has significantly improved and also helped with my back issues. I’m also stronger at pole. Lifts have become much easier & cleaner. My shoulder mobility is also better and I’ve gained strength there too. I’m much more balanced.'
.
I absolutely love working with Sarah. She always shows up and gives it all. Thank you for putting your trust in me and being with me as a client all those years @sarahk_b21 🙏❤️
