Are you supporting a young person who has just passed their driving test? The learning is only just beginning ๐
The first few months after passing a test are when new drivers gain experience and build confidence. They are still learning how to judge risks and deal with different driving situations.
You can help by keeping conversations about driving open and supportive.
Here are some simple ways to support them:
โ
encourage them to build their confidence gradually, including driving at night, in different weather conditions, and on unfamiliar roads
โ
agree sensible limits on carrying passengers and making late-night journeys while they gain experience
โ
consider using a parent and young driver agreement to set expectations and increase independence over time
โ
make sure they know they can always call home for a lift if they feel unsafe or uncomfortable
The Staffordshire Safer Roads Partnership works to reduce deaths and serious injuries on our roads. It brings together organisations including the Commissionerโs Office, Staffordshire Police, Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service, and National Highways.
The partnership focuses on road safety through education, enforcement, and targeted campaigns.
By working together, we can help young people gain valuable driving experience while reducing risks.
