Blown Away in the City of Discovery โ€” Forth and Kerse Crash Out in Windy Cup Encounter

A second-half collapse saw Forth and Kerse exit the Scottish Cup in brutal conditions, falling 7โ€“1 to Riverside Athletic on Dundeeโ€™s blustery riverside.

The afternoon got off to a rough start when the lads lost the coin toss, condemning them to face gale-force winds that reached up to 65 mph. It took just three minutes for Riverside to take advantage โ€” a wind-assisted corner swirling straight into the net to make it 1โ€“0.

Despite the early setback, Forth and Kerse responded well, settling into the game and carving out several chances while battling the elements. Just before the interval, Paul Oโ€™Hara had a golden opportunity to level things when he found himself one-on-one with the Riverside keeper. Unfortunately, his effort was saved, and to make matters worse, he picked up an ankle injury chasing the rebound. Everyone at the club wishes Paul a speedy recovery.

With the wind at their backs after the restart, Forth and Kerse looked poised to turn the tide โ€” but instead found themselves caught in the eye of a Riverside storm. Two quickfire goals within the first five minutes of the half shattered any hopes of a comeback, and from there the floodgates opened.

Despite injuries across the squad, the boys kept battling. Lee Gibb netted a consolation goal and almost had a screamer from 35 yards, rattling the crossbar, but chances were few and far between as Riverside finished the job in ruthless fashion.

It was a tough one to take, but spirits lifted post-match with a roll on mince at The Snug Bar โ€” a fitting Dundee recovery tradition.

The club would like to thank Riverside Athletic for their warm hospitality and wish them the best of luck in the third round.

North Kelvin 2โ€“3 Forth & Kerse

Kitman Dave to the rescue!

Today we travelled through to Glasgow Green to face a North Kelvin side in fine form. Both teams had just one substitute, and right from the off it was a fiery contest. The opening half-hour was frantic, with neither side able to settle into rhythm.

On 35 minutes, Callum Hutchinson picked out Paul Oโ€™Hara with a quarterback-style diagonal pass. Oโ€™Hara cut it back for Keir Esson, who smashed home emphatically to make it 1โ€“0 โ€” one of our finest goals of the season so far.

We went into the break with the lead and started the second half on the front foot. Gibber, filling in at left back, unleashed a thunderous 25-yard volley that forced the keeper into a save. Oโ€™Hara was quickest to react, slotting in the rebound to double our advantage.

Moments later Oโ€™Hara had the chance to put the game to bed, but couldnโ€™t quite convert. North Kelvin, to their credit, kept battling and showed their quality with two quickfire goals to level the game.

With just five minutes left, Gibber whipped in a teasing cross, met first-time on the volley by none other than kitman Dave. The net bulged, the boys erupted, and Davo pulled out a world-class knee slide to celebrate a moment heโ€™ll never forget.

The final minutes were tense. Kerr threw himself into a last-ditch tackle, Gibber picked up a booking for time-wasting, and we cleared our lines more than once before the referee finally blew for full time.

A huge 3โ€“2 win given the players we had available, and another step forward as momentum builds. Next up: a trip to Dundee to face Riverside Athletic in the second round of the Scottish Cup.

Up the FK!
