Congratulations to Oliver for joining the PPA 50 club! πŸ’₯

Oliver joined PPA in November 2024 with a focus on improving the physical side of football (movement speed, strength and power) ⚽️

In that time, we've seen big phases of growth (10cm so far) and huge physical improvements in his strength and performance testing:

Countermovement jump (general lower body power): from 21cm to 31.3cm = 49% improvement!

Broad jump (horizontal power): from 181cm to 216cm = 19.3% improvement!

RSI (reactive strength): from 1.57 - 2.25 = 43.3% improvement!

This data gives us a high level of evidence that these physical qualities will transfer to movements in the game - he's felt more confident in possession of the ball and his acceleration & deceleration has improved

Great work Oliver - keep it up!

We work with highly motivated young athletes who are aiming to improve performance in sport and reduce the risk of injury.

We do this by focusing on developing:

πŸ‹β€β™€οΈ Movement quality
πŸ’ͺ Strength
✊️ Power
πŸƒβ€β™‚οΈ Speed
πŸ€Έβ€β™€οΈ Mobility
πŸ™‚ Confidence
πŸ«€ Long-term health
πŸ’€ Recovery methods
πŸ› Nutrition
πŸ“… Training load

Does your son or daughter need to improve any of the above?

Our youth athletes are working hard and seeing LOTS of progress βœ…οΈ

From athletes who have been with us for months progressing on to work with barbells and heavier loads (still with excellent technique!), to young athletes who are brand new to our programme learning the fundamental movement patterns

Long-term, individualised, structured training for motivated young athletes aged 10-18 πŸ’ͺ

Each young athlete is working on what they need, mainly looking to improve:

πŸ”ΉοΈ Strength
πŸ”ΉοΈ Power
πŸ”ΉοΈ Speed

That improves:

πŸ”ΈοΈ Performance in sport
πŸ”ΈοΈ Risk of injury
πŸ”ΈοΈ Confidence
πŸ”ΈοΈ Training skills and knowledge
πŸ”ΈοΈ Health

Welcome to the 50 club, Elliot!

Elliot has been a member of PPA since Feb 2025, joining his brother Jensen (also a 50 club member!)

Elliot initially joined us with the goal of improving physical attributes to improve performance and long term development for Football

We started working through our foundation phase movement and strength development curriculum, which guides young new athletes through the fundamentals and helps them gain confidence in training (we do this with both athletes in person and those who train with us remotely)

He's developed a huge amount of strength while pushing his key physical performance tests massively. Here are his stats:

Broad jump: from 156cm to 173cm (10.9%)
Counter movement jump: 25cm to 29.6cm (18.4%)
Reactive strength: from 1.12 to 1.42 (26.8%)

All while dealing with high growth in that time - growing over 5cm!

These improvements transfer massively to movement speed in football (linear and change of direction speed, jump height AND the ability to maintain high intensity movements)

Let's go Elliot!

TRAINING MOVEMENT + PHYSICAL QUALITIES ALONGSIDE SPORT

Playing more games only goes so far when we're looking at athletic development. If youth athletes are going to achieve their potential, they need more focused work:

βœ”οΈ Strength
βœ”οΈ Mobility
βœ”οΈ Balance
βœ”οΈ Speed mechanics
βœ”οΈ Injury prevention work

Focusing on building them as an athlete will help them develop in their sport

SLEEPING ENOUGH

Most young athletes are under-recovered, not under-trained - sleep has the biggest impact on recovery

πŸ€ Better performance
🧠 Faster reaction time
πŸ’ͺ More muscle recovery
😌 Better mood & focus

Goal: 8–10 hours nightly

EATING AFTER TRAINING

Many athletes train hard… then skip recovery nutrition.

Within 30–60 minutes after training:

βœ… Protein
βœ… Carbs
βœ… Fluids

Protein helps with repair, carbohydrate helps to re-fuel and fluids re-hydrate, 3 essential factors - especially when training the next / same day

If you need help training and recovering the right way, DM us the word 'performance' and we'll show you how we can help

Fantastic work from PPA athletes at our in-person sessions last week!

Everyone is on their own sporting journey, and we're here to support their development.

Individualised programmes mean there is some cross-over between exercises/drills, but all for different reasons for each athlete.

All with one key focus:

HIGH QUALITY MOVEMENT

This increases the chance that training will carry over to the sport, improves strength/power/speed to a greater extent, and means less chance of injury. Keep smashing it!

πŸ‘‰ In-person sessions every weekday
4:30-5:30pm
5:30-6:30pm
6:30-7:30pm
7.30-8.30pm

πŸ‘‰ Or work with us remotely!

Congratulations to Elise for joining the 50 Club! πŸ‘

Elise initially joined back in Jan 2025 with a focus on getting faster, stronger and more powerful for football ⚽️

We started Elise on our movement development curriculum with a focus on long term physical development - covering all key fundamental movements that improve strength, power and movement quality.

Since joining, Elise has seen HUGE improvements in physical performance while growing a massive 10cm!

Performance stats:

Countermovement jump (general lower body power): from 14.8cm to 23.2cm = 56.7% improvement!

Broad jump (horizontal power): from 127cm to 168cm = 32.3% improvement!

RSI (reactive strength): from 0.97 - 1.17 = 20.6% improvement!

These improvements are massive - and have a huge transfer to all explosive movements on the pitch.

Keep smashing it Elise!

Test what you train and train what you test πŸ“ˆ

How do you know if you're truly getting better?

➑️ We must test what our desired outcome of training is.

For the vast majority of our youth athletes, developing the ability to produce force QUICKLY and becoming more REACTIVE off the ground is something we are aiming for πŸ’ͺ

This transfers into most athletic movements (think jumping off the ground, sprinting, pushing off a wall etc.)

Therefore, we should be testing it...

➑️ Every week, we alternate between 4 different tests. This allows us to monitor whether athletes are improving or not.

➑️ That then allows us to plan appropriate programmes

This is part of what makes us unique and helps us to maximise the potential of our motivated young athletes πŸ”₯

No one does it like us around here!

Is your child eating to recover optimally? πŸ€”

Hard training + nutrition = maximum results πŸ’ͺ

A big gap for youth athletes is protein intake

Not enough protein and we might be compromising the hard training we've just done - not seeing the results we want

Recommendations πŸ“ˆ

1.5 - 2g of protein per kg of bodyweight

Towards the upper end if they play multiple sports + school PE

& especially if they're growing!!

Is your child eating enough protein daily?

This week we're saying goodbye to coach Dhanyaal!

Dhanyaal has been coaching with us since August 2022 (just after PPA started) πŸ’ͺ

He's contributed massively to both the development of 100s of athletes we've worked with in that time and to the development of what we do at PPA, all while coaching full time in elite football πŸ‘Œ

Dhanyaal is moving on and focusing on a career in teaching - which he'll be great at

Thank you for everything Dhanyaal! All the best moving forward πŸ™
