MATCH REPORT | Cheadle Hulme Albion 1–1 Edgeley Villa

Stockport Sunday League Division Two
Sunday 11th October 2026
William Scholes Playing Fields

There wasn't a great deal between the two sides in a game of limited chances, with neither team really able to take control for long periods.

The first half was a fairly quiet affair, with clear opportunities at a premium. Connor Walton had a good chance to put Villa ahead after being picked out by a neat through ball, but was unable to make the opportunity count.

Villa were then forced into a change when James Vickers suffered a nasty cut to his forehead following a clash of heads. Hopefully nothing too serious and we wish him a speedy recovery.

Rick Kelly came on in his place and made an impact just before the break. Kelly turned provider with Jack Atkinson finding the net from just outside the box to give Villa a 1–0 lead heading into half time.

HT: Cheadle Hulme Albion 0–1 Edgeley Villa

The hosts came out strongly after the restart and wasted little time getting themselves back on level terms, scoring early in the second half to make it 1–1.

From there the game remained closely contested, with neither side creating too much in front of goal.

Villa came closest to restoring their lead when an effort struck the crossbar, whilst Cheadle Hulme continued to pose a threat with their pace and runs in behind the Villa defence.

Despite both sides looking for a winner, neither could find the breakthrough and the points were shared.

FT: Cheadle Hulme Albion 1–1 Edgeley Villa

MAN OF THE MATCH | MATTHEW MORAN

A brilliant performance from Matt, who completed his first full 90 minutes for Villa.

Playing in front of a solid back four, Moran provided an excellent shield for the defence, broke up play and offered a calming presence whenever he was on the ball.

A really composed performance and a well deserved Man of the Match award.

Cheadle Hulme Albion v Edgeley Villa 🔵⚫

Tomorrow we travel to William Scholes Playing Fields to take on Cheadle Hulme Albion in the league.

After last week's 5-2 derby win against Edgeley Villa Hatters, we'll be looking to carry that on and pick up another 3 points.

The last time we played Albion it finished 4-3 to us, so if that's anything to go by we could be in for another entertaining game. Hopefully we can make it a bit more comfortable for ourselves this time

We know it'll be another tough game but hopefully the lads can put in another good performance and get the result we're after.

DERBY DAY DELIGHT! 🔵⚫

A brilliant 5-2 derby win over Edgeley Villa Hatters and the local bragging rights belong to Villa!

Connor Walton opened the scoring after some great work from Luke Walsh down the left. The second came when a dangerous corner whipped in by Connor was turned into his own net by a Hatters defender.

Connor grabbed his second after excellent work from Jack Atkinson, who stood the ball up beautifully at the back post for Connor to head home. Hatters responded through a good header from Logan Gamble, but Villa restored the three-goal advantage in some style.

Connor completed a perfect first-half hat-trick with the pick of the bunch — an unbelievable 35-yard half-volley that flew in off the post! 🎩⚽

The second half was much less open, with Hatters pulling one back from a header following a long throw. But the ever-reliable Rick Kelly completed the scoring, dancing his way through a couple of players before beating the keeper at his near post.
