The Vine Inn FC 2 - 1 Newcastle FC
Full time again at Sprink Bank saw the lads grab a 2-1 victory today against Division 5 side Newcastle FC.
The Vine started off spritely as usual and were creating some decent chances early on. Newcastle FC answered with some good defensive play and some counterattacking football.
The Vine's first big chance came when a lovely ball over the top found Kie Clews one on one with the keeper, but it didn't fall the way Kie had hoped and the keeper made a save that had to be made.
Chances were flowing at both ends, and the scoring was opened by Harry, with what can only be described as a top tier, world class strike from 25 yards out, finding the top corner and leaving the Newcastle keeper with no chance. 1 - 0 The Vine.
The Vine didn't stop there and kept pushing, with a few more chances going our way, but unfortunately not finding the back of the net. And it was a very similar story for Newcastle, and with some good defensive play from the Vine, we saw out the first half with a 1 - 0 lead.
HT: The Vine 1 - 0 Newcastle
We got the second half underway with no changes made, and we controlled the first 10-15 minutes.
This bright spell from the boys saw Diogo go on a fantastic solo run from his own half, and thread a lovely ball through the Newcastle defence. This was turned in by a Newcastle defender after their only bit of miscommunication in the game saw them 2-0 down. But taking nothing away from Kie Clews who was hot on the heals of the Newcastle defender to force the error. 2-0 The Vine.
Fatigue had started to set in for both teams, and things soon turned on its head as Newcastle saw their first goal through our very own captain, Jake, with a spectacular strike! π Jake was unlucky with clearing a Newcastle low cross which unfortunately saw the back of his own net. However we are taking nothing away from Jake who put on a brilliant performance, and didn't miss a beat throughout the whole 90 minutes. 2-1 The Vine.
We all worked as a team to keep Newcastle at bay, and we succeeded and wrapped up a brilliant 2-1 victory.
Thank you to Newcastle FC for this evening and a massive well done to everyone at The Vine FC on another victory.

The Vine FC 5 - 1 Rifleman FC
The lads were back at Spring Bank again this evening for our latest pre-season friendly against Rifleman FC, with a tactical masterclass in place from Joe.
As always, the lads started off energetic and keen, and were rewarded with a brilliant goal from Connor 10-15 minutes into the first half, with a 25 yard strike beating the rifleman keeper.
The Vine FC 1 - 0 Rifleman FC
The lads in green didn't stop there, as Connor earned the ball back deep into the Rifleman half, and fired in a cross for Taylor to put home a very cool and calm finish under pressure. 2-0.
With our energy levels high, we kept pushing and were rewarded yet again after a world class pass from Mehmet in the midfield found Connor who slipped in behind the Rifleman back line to nudge it past the keeper for his second of the day.
HT: The Vine FC 3 - 0 Rifleman FC
After a brilliant first half show from the lads, we stepped out with more energy for the second half.
15-20 minutes into the second half saw the Rifleman FC play a lovely ball into the box across the floor for an easy finish. The Vine were appealing an offside and unfortunately, it didn't go our way. However nothing to be taken away from Rifleman FC as it was a very well worked goal. 3-1
The Vine responded to this as a team and played some brilliant football in the midfield. During our bright possession spell, Diogo burst down the line beating his man to slot home a brilliant solo goal. 4-1
Legs started to get heavy in the heat, the Vine persisted and played through with all of the energy we had left. Taylor saw his chance for his brace and had beaten his man well, but was unfortunately brought down in the penalty area to prevent him for getting his second. Penalty for The Vine FC.
Some brilliant sportsmanship from Taylor as he gifted the penalty to Connor, with the intention of Connor sealing The Vine FC's first ever hat-trick scored by a player.
Connor stepped up and with a cool head, smashed the ball home to complete his hat-trick and make it a very healthy 5-1 lead for The Vine.
Some great defensive play from the likes of Jake, Brogan, JT, Mehmet and Rob helped us see out the game for The Vine FC's first ever victory.
A massive shoutout to all of the lads today, who played with their hearts on their sleeve for 90 minutes. It's very easy to give credit to our attacking players for scoring the goals, but a massive shoutout to our midfield, JT, Rob, and Mehmet for dictating the middle of the park, and some brilliant stone wall defending from our defence, Leo, Jake, Brogan, and Josh. And a final shoutout to our Manager Joe, for trusting his instincts and having a great belief in the lads, with a great tactical performance.
A big achievement for The Vine FC today and thank you to Rifleman FC for the game today, Good luck for the rest of the season lads. UP THE VINE!! ππ

The Vine Inn FC 1 - 3 Tunstall United
Another friendly for The Vine today saw us welcome our neighbours, Tunstall United, at Spring Bank.
Given the hot weather we had, both teams started with a great intensity to the game.
Around the 15 minute mark, the match saw it's opening goal as Tunstall United played a good ball into the box which was met with a free header for Tunstall, in which they capitalised and scored the opening goal. 1-0 Tunstall United.
The Vine responded to this with some brilliant football, which resulted in a well deserved equaliser, courtesy of Jack from the edge of the box, finding the near side bottom corner. Tunstall United 1 - 1 The Vine.
Some great football from both sides was presented for the rest of the first half, seeing chances for both sides before the end of the first half.
HT: 1-1 β½οΈ
The second half saw the introduction of new tactics and substitutions. The Vine really took a grip on the game with some very good chances coming our way, Tunstall responded with some solid defending to keep The Vine at bay.
A quick break late in the second half caught The Vine off guard, and saw Tunstall put themselves 1-2 up, with a great ball across the box for an easy finish.
Shortly after, a similar scenario occurred again, with The Tunstall forward catching Shane off his line, lofted the ball into the back of the net to make it 1-3.

β½οΈ Full Time: The Vine Pittshill 1 - 3 Ball Green Development
A good competitive game and a great test for the lads, with both teams battling well throughout.
The first half was a very even contest with chances at both ends. Ball Green took the lead through a free kick which took a deflection and found its way in, leaving us trailing at the break.
The second half continued to be a close battle, but Ball Green doubled their advantage after a long throw into the box was met with a strong header. A mix-up between our goalkeeper and left back then gifted the opposition their third.
The lads kept pushing and got their reward when young midfielder Harry picked the ball up around the halfway line, drove into space and unleashed a brilliant strike from the edge of the box to pull one back. β½οΈ
Not long after, Harry was involved again, playing a great ball through to Liam on the left wing who found himself through on goal, but the Ball Green keeper produced a fantastic save to deny us another.
Plenty of positives to take and more minutes in the legs as we continue building. π
Final score: 3-1
A big thank you and best of luck to Ball Green Development for the upcoming season π€
