One cue that completely changed her deadlift.

"Push your hips back."

This is exactly why coaching is so effective.

My client was struggling to find a strong start position. She looked a little curled up over the bar which made it harder to create tension and get into a strong position. I asked her to push her hips back slightly and demonstrated the difference between what she was doing and what I wanted her to do.

Look at how that one adjustment changed her setup. It improved her hip hinge, created better hamstring tension, helped load the posterior chain more effectively and reduced unnecessary stress on her lower back. The result was a cleaner, stronger and more efficient deadlift.

Sometimes the biggest improvements don't come from lifting heavier or doing more exercises. They come from having someone who can spot the small details and give you the right cue at the right time.

πŸ’‘ Tip: If you ever feel "curled up" over the bar when setting up try thinking "long spine." Imagine creating length from the top of your head all the way to your tailbone while staying braced. Avoid overextending your back or dropping your hips too low. This can help you find a stronger more neutral position before the bar even leaves the floor.

Also, video yourself. It's one of the easiest ways to spot where your technique could be improved and make small corrections that have a big impact. πŸ’œ

We're often told that if we miss a week we'll lose all our progress... but it doesn't happen that quickly.

After 11 days away from the gym, I came back and deadlifted the exact same 100kg for the same reps as my last session.

This wasn't because I took time off. It was because of the years of consistent training I'd already put in.

Strength takes a long time to build but it doesn't disappear easily.

In fact, after months (or years) of consistent training, a short break can sometimes leave you feeling fresher because you've finally recovered from the fatigue you've been carrying.

⚠️ That doesn't mean you should start taking regular weeks off, especially if you're a beginner. Beginners need consistent practice to build strength, improve technique and lay those foundations.

The point is this...

Strength is one of the best investments you can make in your body.

The years you spend building it don't just help you lift heavier in the gym. They make strength more resilient, easier to maintain, and it will continue to pay you back as you get older.

Strong muscles and bones, better balance, more independence, a lower risk of falls, and the ability to keep doing the things you love for longer is why strength training matters.

So if life gets in the way, you go on holiday, get ill, or take a planned deload, don't convince yourself you've lost everything.

Get back in the gym. Trust the work you've already put in. Then keep building.

Because it's your long-term consistency that creates lasting strength. πŸ’œ

3 reasons to train your glutes that have nothing to do with how they look πŸ‘‡

And why glute training is non-negotiable for every client I coach.

1️⃣ Reduce unnecessary stress on your lower back.
Strong glutes take on more of the work during movements like squats, deadlifts and bending instead of your lower back having to compensate.

2️⃣ Improve knee stability and movement.
Stronger glutes help keep your knees tracking well under load which can improve control and reduce compensations during lower body exercises.

3️⃣ Move better in everyday life.
Your glutes help stabilise your pelvis when you walk, run, climb stairs or stand on one leg, giving you better balance, control and efficiency.

None of that's about aesthetics. It's about moving well, lifting well and building a body that's strong and capable.

A great looking bum is of course a bonus πŸ‘πŸ˜‰

A strong upper back matters more than you may think in a deadlift.

It acts as an anchor to keep your torso rigid

It prevents the barbell from drifting away from your legs

It keeps your spine secure under heavy loads

A weak upper back can cause your posture to collapse making it hard to lock out the weight

Save this and add these into your week:
πŸ“ Face pulls
πŸ“ Chest-supported rows
πŸ“ Straight-arm pulldowns
πŸ“ Farmer carries

What a way to end of the week on 100kg deadlifts. Cleanest form I've had at this weight πŸ’ͺ Feeling super strong this week πŸ™Œ
