Perfect conditions for football last night and wow, some silky skills on display.

Game 1 between Yellows and Blacks started as a tight and cagey affair with both sides playing passing football trying to unlock strong defences. Once the 1st goal went in though, the floodgates opened in a backwards and forwards match with the Blacks coming out on top to keep their title hopes alive.

In game 2, Greens & Whites put on a festival of football which could have gone either way. Deep into the 2nd half the game was locked at 2-2 but a freak goal put the Greens 3-2 and as Whites pushed for an equaliser, Greens took advantage on the break to bring it home with a 5-2 win.

Monchen Fatbacks lead the league by 2 points with just 2 games to go. Can they keep their bottle?

Off the pitch, some terrific weight loss going on. Jamie Hughes leads the individual league table with Andy Lycett, Damien Phelan, Declan McGrane and Keith Miller breathing down his neck.

The top scorer charts are just as close, Kev Haymer on 11 goals with Mike Berry, Connah Flynn and Jamie Hughes just behind him on 10

Everything still to play for in the final 2 games.....who's going to be the inaugural Liverpool FXL champion?

Week 5 of season 7 and a dry cooler evening under the lights up at Frickley.

Blues v Blacks was our early 7pm game last night. Both teams started well, getting on the scoresheets it was an even game early on seeing an early score line of 1 - 1. However Blacks pushed through taking the lead and built on this throughout the remainder of the game, with Blues unable to catch them up, seeing Blacks take the win 1 - 5.

Both the later games kicked off at their usual time of 8pm and saw two more great games. In the Yellows V Greens game, both teams played well, with keepers pulling off some amazing saves. Greens took the lead, and were able to build on that with some quick balls being played, Yellows were unable to break through Greens keeper with the final whistle being blown up at 0 - 5 in Greens favour. On the adjacent pitch we saw Reds V Whites in a game with plenty of action from both teams. Reds were down in numbers and saw them using borrows so had to work hard to make up the difference. Both teams played great football, there were plenty of goals and Reds were able to make up for the borrows advantage Whites had. Final score ended with Reds being able to take the win 6 - 4.

On the top scorers this season; Max Charlottes stays ahead on 6 goals with Ash Ballance, Cameron Chatton, Phil Eames and Kacper Jarszak all hot on his heels with 5 goals each.

Great to see the lads from Sunderland starting up an 11 a side team on the back of our league at Leisure United Downhill Football and Gym.

If anybody would like to help them by sponsoring them to help with the start up process then see the details below πŸ‘‡πŸ»

πŸ”΅βšͺ SPONSORSHIP OPPORTUNITY β€” WEARSIDE GIANTS βšͺπŸ”΅

We’re excited to announce the Wearside Giants, an ambitious new 11-a-side football team made up of players from Football XL, who currently play in the Friday night league run by Football XL at Downhill Football and Gym.

We’re looking to partner with a local business or organisation who would like to become our shirt sponsor and help us fund our new team kits for the season.

⚽ Who are we?

The Wearside Giants bring together footballers from across the Football XL community who are ready to take the next step into 11-a-side football.

We want to build more than just a team β€” we want to create a strong identity, represent our local football community and give our players the opportunity to compete together in a proper 11-a-side environment.

🀝 What we're looking for

We’re looking for a sponsor to help cover the cost of our new team playing kits.

In return, your business could have its logo proudly displayed on the front of the Wearside Giants shirts, putting your brand alongside the team throughout the season.

It’s a great opportunity for a local business to support grassroots football while getting its name in front of players, supporters and the wider Football XL community.

πŸ’™ Support local football. Back the Giants.

If your business would be interested in becoming our shirt sponsor, or you'd like to discuss the sponsorship opportunity, please send us a message.

Every bit of support helps us get this team off the ground.

WEARSIDE GIANTS

Both the later games kicked off at their usual times of 8pm and saw two more great games. FootballXL Sunderland Leisure United Downhill Football and Gym

Week 2 of Season 2
A unprecedented wave of injuries gave us a quick fixture change around and therefore we had two competitive early games and a more relaxed late game.

Game 1 - Samba Snackers v Man Chippy (2-9)
A fast start from Chippy got them into a few goal lead before a slight fightback from Samba notched them a few goals. Special mention to the fact this was the first full Samba team for a long time!

Game 2 - Diabetico Madrid v Piggy Blinders (6-1)
Another no borrow game which Diabetico showcased some merciless finishing to gain a good win and keep pressure on Man Chippy, could come down to goal difference?
Mid game injuries stopping the Blinders in their tracks but sure they will come back fighting.

Game 3 - FC Bayern Munching v FC Twente Nuggets (7-0) forfeit
Sadly due to holidays and injuries Twente Nuggets got denied entry at the border and no team were available. Due to a switch around and 8 plucky volunteers we managed to get a game on for Bayern.
