Unfortunately we did not have the camera available for this game.

Report from our coach...

'It was a good run out there. I thought the lads showed flashes of what they are about, and were the better side.

We just needed a little bit more quality with the final pass or shot and they would have won that game comfortably. There were loads of positives to take from that game for me.

We go again Tuesday as we've got another West End side coming in to play the lads.'

Tournament Report

Venue: Downhill Hub

An eventful, action-packed tournament at Downhill Hub saw Ryhope CW FC Youth battle hard through a tough group phase and go all the way to a semi-final penalty shootout. Filled with heroic goalkeeping, stunning team goals, and plenty of heart, the boys did the club proud playing a year up.

Group Stage

Game 1: Ryhope CW FC Youth 0 – 0 Humbledon & Plains Farm

The tournament opener proved to be a thrilling, end-to-end defensive battle, largely defined by an inspired performance from Oliver between the posts. Humbledon signaled their intent early by shooting wide left, but we quickly responded when Lincoln took a brilliant first touch and laid the ball off to Finley, whose low shot was saved on the left side of the goal.

Humbledon pushed back, dragging a shot wide right before Oliver made his first crucial save on the right side of his goal.

We continued to press, with Preston seeing a free kick deflect wide left and Lincoln volleying wide right from a corner.

As the match hung in the balance, Oliver produced a magnificent one-on-one save with his legs to deny Humbledon.

Will then sent an effort wide right, while Finley was denied when his post-corner strike was heroically blocked on the line.

Oliver closed out with another one-on-one save and stopping a final strike on the right side of his goal to secure a well-earned clean sheet.

Game 2: Ryhope CW FC Youth 0 – 1 South Tyneside Hurricanes

Another tight, high-intensity match saw us pushed to our limit by a sharp South Tyneside outfit.

The Hurricanes opened the chances by shooting wide right, but Oliver was alert early once again, making a key save at his near left post.

After the Hurricanes dragged another effort wide left, Oliver was called into action high in the goal.

The breakthrough came in the tenth minute when we unfortunately lost possession on the edge of their own box, allowing the Hurricanes to punish the mistake by firing a clinical shot into the right side of the net.

We fought valiantly for a late equaliser, and with the final kick of the game, Preston volleyed just over the crossbar following a corner.

Game 3: Ryhope CW FC Youth 5 – 1 Silksworth Youth Reds

We hit our attacking stride in sensational fashion during their third group game, putting on a goalscoring masterclass. Charlie H set the tempo with a cross-shot that flashed wide right, while Silksworth responded by shooting over the bar from distance.

Charlie D then saw an effort saved, but the pressure finally told in the third minute. High pressing forced Silksworth into losing the ball in their own defensive third, where Charlie H received it with his back to goal on the edge of the area, turned brilliantly, and swept a left-footed strike into the top left corner.

Thomas nearly doubled the lead following a rampaging run down the right flank, forcing a save at the near post. Leo then fired a powerful effort over the bar, while Lincoln caused chaos with a dangerous cross from the right that deflected just wide before shooting wide himself from a corner.

After Silksworth shot wide right, we struck again in the seventh minute when Lincoln set up Charlie D, who curled a sublime finish into the top right corner.

Preston shot wide left shortly after, but in the ninth minute, Charlie D took a quick kick-in, dribbled straight into the box, and slotted the ball cleanly into the bottom left corner for 3–0.

Silksworth managed to pull one back in the tenth minute when a shot from range was poked past Oliver from close range, but our response was immediate. Finley shot wide left, and after Lincoln’s follow-up effort was parried, Finley hit the rebound just wide right.

Charlie D fired wide once more before Thomas went on another strong run in the thirteenth minute; his shot was saved, but Finley was on hand to tap home the rebound.

After Charlie D beat three players on a mazy run that was deflected wide, we capped off a dominant display in stoppage time. Finley had a initial shot saved, gathered the rebound, and unselfishly set up Lincoln, who smashed the ball home to seal a sensational 5–1 victory.

Game 4: Ryhope CW FC Youth 0 – 1 Seaham Coast Yellows

With a spot in the knockout stages on the line, we faced a disciplined Seaham Coast outfit.

Finley looked dangerous early on, testing the keeper with a shot saved low to the left before whipping a free kick high into the goal, which was well held.

Seaham threatened at the other end by shooting wide right, and in the seventh minute, they found the decisive goal when a deep cross from the right found an unmarked attacker in the box to tap into the centre of the net.

Seaham shot wide left on a late counter-attack, but despite our pressing, the match ended in a narrow defeat.

Semi-Final

Ryhope CW FC Youth 0 – 0 Seaham Coast Yellows (Seaham win 2–0 on penalties)

We met Seaham Coast once again in a tense, end-to-end semi-final showdown. We started with real intent, as Thomas dragged a shot wide left after a powerful run down the right before forcing another central save from the Seaham keeper moments later.

Seaham responded with an effort wide right, but we pushed again, seeing Leo's central strike turned away.

Defensively, we stood resolute. Leo deflected a dangerous Seaham shot over the crossbar, and when a Seaham long ball bounced over our defence, Oliver rushed out quickly to pressure the attacker into lifting his first-time shot high over the target.

After Seaham sent a late free kick wide left, the referee blew for full-time on a scoreless draw.

The tie went straight to a penalty shootout to determine who would reach the final. Unfortunately, luck was not on our side, as we missed our first and second spot-kicks while Seaham converted twice to claim the victory.

It was a tough day at the office today as we came up against a clinical Seaburn Juniors side. Charlie D, Charlie H, Leo and Oscar were all unavailable, so Miles and Charlie stepped up an age group to play their first 7v7 game. Despite the scoreline, our boys fought tirelessly until the final whistle, with Oliver putting in a man of the match performance between the posts and Preston getting us on the scoresheet with a great late strike.

Seaburn caught us cold straight from the whistle, striking early in the 1st minute with a finish into the left side of the goal. (0-1)

We regrouped immediately. Oliver gathered a Seaburn shot on the left, before Miles led our first attack, seeing his shot saved in the right side to win us a corner. Oliver was called upon again shortly after, comfortably catching a powerful central free-kick.

Seaburn then sent a free-kick over the bar, before Lincoln hit a clean volley from a kick-in that was gathered by the visitor's keeper on the left.

Despite our response, Seaburn proved ruthless. In the 9th minute, a cross from the right was tapped home to double their lead (0-2). Oliver did brilliantly to deny a close-range effort with his legs moments later, but Seaburn added a third in the 11th minute when a rebound was tucked in after Oliver made an initial save from a right-wing cross. (0-3)

Oliver remained under heavy pressure, making a central save before Seaburn dragged an effort wide left. After another smart stop by Oliver on the left and another off-target Seaburn effort, the visitors added a fourth in the 17th minute with a strike from the edge of the box. (0-4)

We continued to dig in. Oliver saved another free-kick effort on his left, but in the 19th minute, Seaburn tucked in a second rebound from a tight angle following his initial stop. (0-5)

Thomas put his body on the line with a brave block inside the box to deny Seaburn, but two quickfire goals in the 21st and 22nd minutes—the second coming after a panicked clearance that only reached the edge of the penalty area—saw Seaburn extend their advantage. (0-7)

We kept looking for a way back into the match. Finley had a central shot saved, and Thomas blocked yet another free-kick effort after Charlie was penalised for what looked like a perfect tackle.

Charlie then turned provider, sending a brilliant through-ball to Finley, who hit his shot just wide right. Seaburn fired wide left just before the whistle to wrap up a frantic first 25 minutes.
Half Time

Oliver picked up right where he left off at the start of the second half, making a sharp save at his near post. However, Seaburn found an eighth in the 27th minute when their forward won the ball high upfield and rounded Oliver to score. (0-8)

We showed great resilience in the second half to restrict Seaburn's chances and build our own momentum. After Seaburn dragged two shots wide, Finley forced a save in the central area. Seaburn put a free-kick wide right, but Oliver produced a spectacular save shortly after, tipping a powerful strike bound for the top left corner past the post.

Seaburn missed chances from a corner and over the bar before we created our best opening of the half: Finley slid a fantastic through-ball to Miles, whose goal-bound effort was agonisingly blocked on the line by a defender.

In the 39th minute, Seaburn were awarded a penalty for handball, which was dispatched into the bottom left corner. (0-9)

Oliver then produced the highlight moment of the match. First tipping a high shot onto the crossbar, the ball dropped for a Seaburn attacker who looked certain to tap it in, but Oliver threw up a leg while grounded to miraculously clear the ball off the line!

Following three more saves from Oliver and a wide effort by Seaburn, our persistence finally paid off in the 46th minute. Preston pressed relentlessly to win the ball high up the pitch, unleashed a strike with his left foot, and fired past the keeper to net a thoroughly deserved goal! (1-9)

Finley had one final effort charged down by the Seaburn keeper before the referee brought the game to an end.

Tonight the boys came up against strong opposition in a friendly match.

We matched West End for large periods of the game, but our opposition were clinical in the critical moments.

Finley scored a great goal in the first half after Oscar played a ball up the line, Finley let it run, turning his man, before running through down the right wing and firing a shot into the bottom left corner.

We scored the goal of the game in the 2nd half as Oscar finished well into the left side of goal after a great passing move involving Thomas, Oscar and Lincoln, who provided the assist.
