2026 season, over and out!
Well, what a season it's been for the Bonymaen bowls club! ππβ€οΈπ€ Some reflections .....
For the first time in our 99 year history we've won the Swansea Bowling Association division 1 title βοΈ. We did so with an undefeated record of played 18, won 17, drawn 1. Amazing!
To add to that we won the SBA Super 9s, the double fours and the Ken Thomas Midweek Shield. A truly historic year for us, and we could not be more proud of it. A magnificent quadruple π π‘πππ
This success is the result of years of hard work.
Not that long ago, there was a time when we could barely field a team, we'd play short every week, we dropped into the third division of the Swansea Bowling Association. These were dark days for us, we were unquestionably on the point of folding. However, a hard core of members refused to give up, some things are worth fighting for, and we cajoled and encouraged new members to join β€οΈπ€
Those new members saved the club, over recent times we've seen another influx of new players, all local boys, and they have all propelled us on to bigger and better things.
Each and every member of the squad has contributed to our success this year, some brand new, many long standing members and long in the tooth! Thanks to each and every one of them.
There were many highlights this season apart from the trophy successes. We were thrilled to welcome Warminster Bowling Club as part of their 2026 South Wales tour, we really hope to be able to reciprocate with a visit to them as part of our 2027 tour (Sean Feeney I will be in touch, just ironing out a few details!). We enjoyed a magnificent tour of our own to South Devon in late May, we had brilliant welcomes at Paignton Bowls Club, Babbacombe Bowling Club and Topsham Bowling Club. We love a bowls tour! 2027 tour is at the advanced planning stage!
We'd like to salute our first ever Mond Shield π‘ winning Captain in Daniel Amos. It's so apt to point out that Dan was one of those new members that saved the club by joining at our greatest time of need, he's only young now so must have been very young then!
We'd also like to pay tribute to our magnificent Hon Sec Keith Brooks, the glue that holds the club together in so many ways!!
We talked a lot within the club this year how we owed a league victory to all the great players that had gone before. "Standing on the shoulders of giants" we dedicate this season's success to every single one of them. We hope, and are trying, to get as many of them as we can to our presentation night on November 7th.
Watch out for hundreds of photos from that night!
Our success is equally their success. Once a member of the Bonymaen bowls club, always a member β€οΈπ€ Although many of them are no longer with us, we still hold them close to our hearts β₯οΈ
Diolch to you all that follow us here, we've gained 300 plus followers this season alone, your support means a lot to us ππ»
Ymlaen Bonymaen β₯οΈπ€β₯οΈπ€β₯οΈπ€
Onwards to the 2027 season and our centenary!
