One of our keenest Topper sailors, Arthur PJ (now aged 13!) spent a week of the school holidays down at the Weymouth and Portland National Sailing Academy (WPNSA) for the UK Topper National Championships. WPNSA was the sailing and windsurfing venue for the London Olympics and is now the dedicated training base for the British Sailing Team.
There were 160+ Topper sailors from across England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales competing across three separate groups; the 5.3 fleet, the 4.2 fleet and the Regatta fleet; there was quite a stream of Olympic level ILCA, 49er and IQFoil (foiling windsurfer) all jostling to use the launch ramps at any one time and to provide some real stratospheric inspiration as they foiled across the bay at up to 35 knots!
A full report can be found here with some excellent photos of the event. Looks like it was a blast! https://www.tamesisclub.co.uk/article/290339

Racing on Sunday ( 28th June) was a pursuit race for the ✨Cutty Sark Bolt and the Kempton Nut✨. Peter Mason as race officer set a long course up towards Kingston Bridge in a mainly westerly wind F1-4. Fifteen boats entered including 5 Juniors. Toby S-H set off at 11:00 as the sole Topper entry. The other classes soon followed. Toby held the lead for quite a while until being overhauled by ILCAs helmed by Ilker Sener, Marcus Chavasse and Lyra Wade. However with about 20 minutes to go to the finish Richard Harris and Jason Stokes in a Merlin took and retained the lead to win the Cutty Sark Bolt. Second and third were Ilker Sener and Marcus Chavasse both in ILCAs. Lyra Wade in fourth sailed a great race to retain the Kempton Nut as well as Toby S-H not too far behind her.

🥉Marcus Chavasse - ILCA
