🏁 MATCH REPORT | THE STATION 2–1 ODDFELLOWS FC 🧡🖤
Second game of the season. Another away day. Another chapter in the Oddfellows story — and this one had absolutely everything.
We travelled down to Billingham for our second game of the season wanting one thing: a win.
Unfortunately, someone upstairs clearly decided we needed to make things interesting first. 😂
With a depleted squad, plenty of starters missing and only ONE substitute on the bench, we were basically playing a footballing version of Where's Wally? — except Wally was one of our defenders and nobody knew where he was supposed to be playing. 🤣
Did that let us down?
Absolutely not.
We got on with it.
We had players being asked to play positions they probably hadn't even Googled before kick-off, and somehow we still put together a team that was ready to battle.
It was clear from the start that if we wanted anything from this game, we were going to have to work our backsides off.
And boy, did we.
We even had two lads turn up on about two hours' sleep, with club anthems still playing around in their heads from the night before our winger looked like he was knocking on death's door. 😂
But lads...
Sorry. You're starting.
Boro might have won, but we needed a win today. 😂
⚽ KICK-OFF
From the first whistle, both teams settled into the game calmly.
It quickly became obvious that this was going to be a very well-matched contest.
Two teams battling, attacking, defending and competing — but importantly, no arguing, no nonsense, just football.
Get on with it and play.
Although...
Can we just say something?
The referee was definitely working with one eye closed. 👀😂
Both teams could probably agree that there were a few decisions during the morning that left everyone scratching their heads.
But that's football.
🧡 1–0 ODDFELLOWS
And then came our opener.
Aaron Porter found himself around 30 yards out.
The people behind him started screaming:
“SHOOT!”
Aaron clearly thought:
Go on then. 😂
He let fly — and somehow, rather than ending up in the next postcode, the ball found its way perfectly into the path of Clint Dixon.
Clint wasn't asking questions.
He took it and buried it into the top-left corner.
Calm.
Composed.
Clinical.
1–0 Oddfellows. 🧡🖤
And suddenly all those missing players, lack of sleep and questionable positional decisions didn't seem quite so important.
⚠️ THE STATION HIT BACK
As we grew further into the game, The Station came back at us.
They found the equaliser through a goal that left us questioning whether someone had forgotten to bring the offside flag with them. 😂
But to be fair, there were some interesting decisions going both ways throughout the game.
Both teams saw things that made absolutely no sense.
And let's just say...
If the Station sideline hadn't made the referee feel like his P45 was being prepared, perhaps he might have gone with the right decision. 😂
We'll leave that one there.
⏱️ HALF TIME
Oddfellows 1–1 The Station
All square.
Game completely in the balance.
And with only one sub available, there wasn't exactly a luxury option of bringing on half the squad and changing the game.
It was going to come down to who wanted it more.
🔥 SECOND HALF
The second half was everything you'd want from a football match.
Back and forth.
Attacking football.
Defending.
Chances.
Pressure.
And two teams refusing to give an inch.
And then...
Jack Morris.
What a performance.
Some of the saves Jack made during this game should honestly have been investigated by the FA. 😂
We're still trying to work out how he managed to keep some of them out.
One minute the ball looked destined for the net.
The next minute Jack was somehow there.
Hands.
Feet.
Legs.
Probably a bit of his soul as well.
Outstanding goalkeeping. 🧤🔥
Unfortunately, later in the second half, Jack went down with an injury.
And that's where the squad depth really got tested.
Everyone looked towards the bench.
And there he was...
Callum Wilson.
Hungover.
Probably wondering why he had bothered turning up.
But he knew what had to happen.
He had to do a shift.
So on he went.
And fair play to him — he stepped up and made some saves himself.
Unfortunately, he couldn't stop the Station's second.
A header at the near post somehow squeezed across the line.
2–1 The Station.
Unlucky.
Absolutely gutting.
But with only minutes left, the lads had a choice.
Heads down?
Or fight?
They chose fight.
🧡🖤 FULL TIME
Oddfellows FC 1–2 The Station
The result hurts.
It absolutely does.
But what doesn't hurt is the effort from every single player who stepped onto that pitch.
A depleted squad.
Players playing out of position.
One substitute.
Two hours of sleep.
A winger who looked like he was already planning his funeral. 😂
An injured goalkeeper.
A hungover goalkeeper coming on.
And somehow, through all of that, we pushed a very good Station side right to the final whistle.
We never stopped fighting.
That's what this club is about.
One club.
One family.
And today, every single one of the lads showed that.
👏 A MASSIVE THANK YOU TO THE STATION
What a game of football.
A proper battle from start to finish and a genuinely thrilling match.
Massive respect to The Station for the game and the way it was played.
We might be disappointed with the result, but we're already looking forward to meeting again later in the season.
Hopefully next time...
WE ACTUALLY HAVE A FULL SQUAD. 😂
Until then, best of luck lads.
We'll see you again. 🧡🖤
