"One day I was playing at the park with my 4-year old son and decided to do some pull ups on the monkey bars and sit-ups on the grass. While I played, a mother sitting on the bench eating her Big Mac started giving me mean looks. I overheard her say to her friend, 'I didn't know this park was a gym now?'

It seems so many people look down on me because they see a fit body and think it comes easy for me. It's not easy meal planning or exercising, especially when healthy habits is not the norm for most people. While annoyed at her comment, I told myself, be like Maria. She would ignore the haters, she would say do 10 more sit ups and smile at those dissing you for being healthy and active and playing with your son...

So that's what I did and before I left , I approached that mom, and said I knew the park wasn't a "gym" but it's not a restaurant either while pointed to her large fries and diet coke. I asked her what her excuse was for saying no when her daughter asked her to push her on the swing... she stared at me in shock and then said "I was eating, not everyone can be anorexic sweetie". ... ... I smiled realizing the ignorance I was dealing with and simply said " And Not everyone has excuses sweetie, but you sure do" ... and like right out of a movie, my son runs up to me and says "momma, let's do pull ups, your muscles are so strong momma" .... the lady then gave me a sour look and I told her to have a good day. (she didn't reply)."

Good for you Tess! Exercising more and smiling bigger is exactly what I would've done!

Here are some factoids:

- I eat over 200 grams of carbs a day
- My protein intake is around 120 grams/day
- I'm obsessed with avocados and almonds
- I used to struggle with bloated belly and try to avoid artificial sugar and lactose to prevent it.
- I take probiotics from GNC Live Well to beat the bloat also.
- I drink mainly water with lemon, ice/hot tea
- And some red wine on the weekends
- I still finish my son's pb & jelly sandwiches (esp when I cut their crust off)
- I don't 'like' running, but since I started training for my first marathon in Pittsburgh, I can't say I hate it anymore.
- my food nemesis is chocolate and candy. I simply cannot resist.
- but when I'm focused on a goal, I can resist, and often do. In fact, I run when I'd rather cycle, work when I'd rather rest and eat eggs instead of donuts because I've disciplined myself to focus on my long-term goals.

So get it in today. Even if you don't want to. Even when you are frustrated, stressed or depressed. Do not starve yourself and make sure you are fueling your machine.
