Email to Students & Parents

Subject: Important Hot Weather Update – Classes Cancelled Wednesday 12th & Thursday 13th August

Dear Students and Parents,

Following a review of the temperatures and hot weather conditions expected this week, we have made the difficult but necessary decision to cancel all scheduled classes at the Busen Centre on Wednesday 12th August and Thursday 13th August.

The health, safety and wellbeing of our students, instructors, staff and families is our highest priority. With the temperatures expected, we do not feel it would be responsible to continue running physically demanding classes and training sessions within the centre.

❌ ALL CLASSES CANCELLED

Wednesday 12th August
Thursday 13th August

This applies to all scheduled martial arts, gymnastics, fitness and other instructor-led classes taking place at the centre on these two days.

🟢 SOFT PLAY – OPEN

Soft Play will remain open on both days.

To give families greater flexibility during the hot weather, you will be able to come down from 07:30 in the morning and throughout the day on both Wednesday and Thursday.

🏋️ WEIGHTS GYM – OPEN AS NORMAL

There are no amendments to the Weights Gym opening hours or access.

The Weights Gym will remain open as normal on both Wednesday 12th and Thursday 13th August.

We appreciate that cancelling classes may cause some inconvenience; however, this decision has been made entirely with everyone’s health and safety in mind.

At present, we expect our normal class timetable to resume from Friday 14th August. Should there be any further changes due to the weather, we will communicate these as soon as possible.

Thank you for your understanding and continued support.

Please stay safe, stay cool and ensure you keep well hydrated during the hot weather.

Kind regards,
Busen Martial Arts & Sports Trust

🥋 SUMMER KARATE COURSE 2026 – GRADING DAY 🥋

What an incredible way to finish this year’s Summer Karate Course!

Today saw students put their skills to the test, with gradings taking place from Purple & White Stripe all the way through to Ni Dan (2nd Dan Black Belt). Every student stepped onto the tatami with determination, focus and the right attitude, making for a fantastic final day.

The morning began with strong, sharp Kihon (Basics), where students demonstrated excellent technique, power and precision. As the grading progressed into Kumite (Sparring), the standard continued to impress. A special mention goes to all of our Shodan Ho (Provisional Black Belt) candidates. It was clear to see the hard work you have put in since your last grading, with confident performances, controlled techniques and some outstanding displays of kumite throughout the day.

The grading was led by Hanshi F.T. Perry 9th Dan, Chief Instructor, assisted on the grading panel by Sensei Ian Alden 7th Dan. Both instructors commented on the exceptionally high standard shown across all grades, praising the effort, discipline and technical ability displayed by every student.

Congratulations to everyone who took part. You should all be proud of the commitment and perseverance you’ve shown throughout the course and today’s grading.

📢 Grading results will be published within the next two weeks, and your instructor will let you know your result as soon as they become available.

A huge thank you to all of our instructors, assistants, parents and students for making this year’s Summer Karate Course another memorable success. We can’t wait to see you all back on the tatami soon!

🥋 Summer Karate Course – Day 3 Update! 🥋

Day three of our Summer Karate Course is well underway, and we are delighted to welcome Sensei Ian Alden, 7th Dan, who has joined Hanshi F. T. Perry, 9th Dan, to help develop our students’ kumite skills. This builds on yesterday’s excellent training, with Hanshi Perry continuing to share more than 50 years of kumite knowledge, experience and wisdom with everyone on the course.

We are also pleased to have Sensei Mandie, 4th Dan, joining the instructor ranks today, sharing her karate knowledge and helping to develop and inspire our younger students. It has been fantastic to see such a strong turnout from our senior instructors throughout the week.

A huge thank you to Sensei Dave, 5th Dan, Sensei Chris, 4th Dan, and Sensei Jack, 3rd Dan, for giving up their time and assisting throughout the entire Summer Karate Course. Their continued support, knowledge and encouragement have been greatly appreciated by all the students.

Today is the final day of preparation before the big day tomorrow! Please remember that the course and grading begin at 8:00am, with the Dan Kumite Grading expected to start at approximately 10:30am.

Keep working hard, stay focused and give everything you have during this final preparation session. Good luck to everyone grading tomorrow! 🥋👊

Day 2 of our annual Karate Summer Course was cool, calm and collected as we decided to start at 8.00am-12.00pm to ensure our students weren’t uncomfortable in the heat. Great work everyone. Keep it up, you’re half way there. 🥋👏
