Our world is a very different place to what it was a couple of weeks ago and we’re facing new and interesting challenges... Your teenager πŸ‘¨β€πŸ¦± may be worried about all this uncertainty and what’s going to happen in these next few months. With GCSEs and A-levels being cancelled ❌ their world 🌎 may have been turned upside down and for many of them there is a chance they may not ever go back to their school again before moving to the next stage of their life. They may feel overwhelmed and challenged by having to constantly stay at home, unable to change the environment and finding it hard not to see their friends 😭, which leaves them feeling lonely and isolated. Perhaps they sleep πŸ’€ too much, they feel tired and unmotivated, unproductive and totally unaccomplished?

>>> You know that they could cope better with more structure, greater focus and more positive mindset 🀩 and having strategies to stay calm and feel less stressed and happier about life in general. πŸ™They would benefit from keeping physically πŸƒβ€β™€β€ and mentally active. Yoga offers simple yet powerful practices that they can incorporate into daily life to break the cycle of boredom, stress and exhaustion whilst improving focus and motivation.

Suffering from hard-to-release back tension or soreness? Struggling with poor posture or reduced mobility?

Join me this week for a beginner friendly yoga practice to bring balance to your entire body!

With much of our natural movement being forward, the side body often tends to get overlooked in our daily lives... We rarely bend to the left or to the right. As a result, the muscles of the side body can end up tight and/or weak. In this week's practice we'll work on stretching and toning these muscles along the sides of the abdomen, rib cage, and spine, which will not only keep our waist trim but in addition side bends keep us energised, they allow us to breathe more fully and help release tension in our shoulders and back, de-stressing and calming.

Exam season is upon us and it can be a very stressful for your teenager who may be feeling anxious and under pressure...

How is your teen coping? Are they feeling overwhelmed, anxious or experiencing panic attacks? Is this affecting their sleep or eating habits? Or are they simply lacking motivation and procrastination has taken over?

To tackle these, yoga can be of great help! Yogic practices such as deep breathing, postures, mindfulness exercises and relaxation can be the ultimate stressbuster. They can help boost confidence, help focus the mind for improved focus and concentration and control pre-exam nervousness, Learning how to relax, learning about the science of stress and how they are in control of their wellbeing are powerful β€œaha moments” for young people. Becoming more aware of their feelings and their emotions as well as having tools to be able to self-regulate, will help them feel better about themselves, both physically and mentally. It will help them sleep better, be calmer, more focused and productive.

If you are worried about your teen, know that you are not alone. The good news is there are things you can do to help the young people in your lives.

Todays teens are experiencing even more stress than adults.

They're worried about school, their friends, romantic relationships, money, the environment, their futures...Some of them are dealing with even more serious issues, like bullying, eating disorders, self-harm, panic attacks and depression.

And often they turn to unhealthy coping mechanisms to deal with their overwhelming feelings.

It’s so important for young people to learn a variety of healthy stress management strategies, including relaxation skills that offer stress relief.

Whether your teen is already displaying signs of stress or you're hoping to help your teen with some preventative measures, yoga offers a large variety of physical, social, emotional and mental health benefits. Do you sit too much? Do you sit at a desk at work, and then in front of your laptop or watching TV when you get home? Do you spend a lot of time sitting in a car, bus or train each day? Do you find that you suffer from lower back pain?

Give your back a treat & come to Yoga on Mondays with Jess at the Whitton Community Centre. 2 classes: 6:00-7:15pm or 7:30-8:45pm

Tomorrow night we'll focus on beautiful backbends, juicy twists and simple postures to counteract what many of us do on a daily basis.
