🚤✨ Day Skipper Theory at Twickenham Yacht Club ✨🚤

A few places remain on our Day Skipper Theory course starting Thursday 2nd October at the Twickenham Yacht Club Clubhouse!

This 24-week evening course (40 hours of teaching, plus two exam papers) will equip you with the knowledge to safely navigate around familiar waters by day. You’ll also gain a basic understanding of lights to introduce you to night cruising.

📚 Course topics include:
⚓ Basics of seamanship
🧭 Coastal navigation and pilotage
📐 Chartwork & electronic charts
📍 Position fixing & plotting a course to steer
🌦️ Weather forecasting & meteorology
🌊 Tides
🚦 Collision regulations
🛥️ Construction, parts & equipment of a cruising boat
🆘 Emergency & safety procedures (distress calls, flares, harnesses, lifejackets & liferafts)

⛵️ What an epic week of sailing at Keyhaven Regatta earlier this August! 🌞

We were spoiled with glorious sunshine, and even a few “Twickenham conditions” early in the week which gave us a tiny edge (though sadly not enough to take home a win 😂).

The long-distance race brought its own drama when the wind picked up, several TYC boats either chickened out or ended up a little worse for wear mid-race 😬.

Huge thanks to everyone at Keyhaven for the warm welcome and brilliant socials every evening. Hopefully the Twickenham crew kept you entertained for another year!

🌬️⛵ Cutty Sark Cup – Race Highlights

Blustery westerly winds made for a challenging and exciting race! Five boats took to the water, but tough conditions saw two retirements. An epic tacking duel between Nick and James & Clare kept everyone on edge, ending in a near photo finish! James & Clare took line honours, but Nick claimed overall victory on handicap and generously shared the traditional Cutty Sark whiskey. 🥃👏

Well done to all sailors and big thanks to Rob, Maxine & Gill on the support boat! 💪

'Detritus' - once a wreck, now a beauty - launched in style with champagne, sun, and a celebratory dip in the Thames 🏊‍♂️ 👙& sunset cruise on Ciao Bella 🚤 🍾

☀️ What a fantastic Open Day! ☀️

Over 200 members of the public joined us for a brilliant day at the club! With the sun blazing and temperatures soaring, getting out on the water was just what everyone needed. 🚤💦

There was no shortage of refreshing lemonade and delicious homemade cakes to keep everyone cool and happy. 🍋🧁

It was wonderful to meet so many new faces — and we hope to see more of you in the coming weeks!
