I set myself the challenge of running 100 miles for Tourettes Action and I did it in just over 3 weeks. My little legs are tired now. My son was diagnosed with mild Tourette’s Syndrome in 2022 and had 40 motor tics and 4 vocal tics. (He didn’t shout out words, this is only about 10% of people) but he was sometimes in pain. We were told a third stay the same, a third get better and a third get worse and luckily he now only has the odd motor tic which doesn’t bother him and isn’t life impacting. But I do feel for everyone who has this, especially the kids and their families - so this is for them. I’m doing the challenge and have set myself to run 100 miles in 15th May-15th June and although it’s tough, it’s not as tough as what others with this go through. Today I had a coffee with my good friend Simone who also happens to be a chartered counselling psychologist. We discussed how exercising 3 times a week can be just as effective as taking a low dose antidepressant for mild to moderate depression and that a 2024 study of 14,000 participants found that walking, jogging, strength training and yoga were effective treatments. (any change to prescribed medications should be done in consultation with your GP)
Exercise builds self-efficiency - the feeling that you have power over your own mood.

Ok so it’s time for another one! Thursday May 7th 7pm. HIIT, Boxing, Prosecco and nibbles included. £29 all in. Everybody is welcome, suitable for all. Just a fun way to exercise together and have a little drinky poo after. Combining two of my favourite things.

Who wants to do a run in Richmond park and then eat a roast dinner after? (Pub TBC) Sunday 26th April I will be hosting a warm up and run and then I’ll lead you to your food! I’ll give you a couple of running routes and distance options which you can decide on once you’re there. Suitable for all levels and abilities it’s just a fun way to get out, do some group exercise in nature and eat. £5 a ticket.
