Pre Black Belt Grading Course Underway 🥋

A fantastic turnout today for our Pre Black Belt Grading Course, led by Hanshi Frank Perry – 9th Dan, assisted by Sensei Ian Alden – 7th Dan, and supported by a number of our other senior grades who helped guide and mentor the students throughout the session.

Students have been working hard through advanced syllabus, sharpening their techniques, spirit, and discipline as they prepare for the upcoming Easter Course, where many will attempt their Black Belt grading.

It’s great to see such a strong turnout and the level of dedication being shown by everyone taking part. The journey to black belt requires commitment, perseverance, and support from the whole dojo, and today was a great example of that.

We look forward to seeing everyone continue their preparation over the coming weeks as we build towards the Easter Black Belt grading course.

🥋 Judo Grading – 1st March 🥋

A huge well done to everyone who took part in our most recent Judo grading on the 1st March. The effort, discipline and determination shown by all of our Judoka was fantastic to see.

It’s always great to watch students progress as they continue to refine their technique, confidence and understanding of Judo on the mat.

📢 Results will be released in one week’s time, so keep an eye out.

This grading also marks an exciting update to our syllabus. As part of the 125 Year Anniversary of the Anglo Japanese Ju-Jutsu & Judo Association, we are introducing our new graded belts with built-in stripes, making it much easier to recognise each student’s grade.

These new belts will be available to purchase from the March grading onwards.

Congratulations again to everyone who took part — we are very proud of the progress you are all making.

🥋 Introducing Our New Judo Grading Belts 🥋

We’re really excited to share a big update to our Judo grading syllabus that many of our parents have been asking for over a long time 👏

Previously, our grading system used ribbons that were sewn or glued onto belts. While this worked, it wasn’t always the easiest way to quickly identify a student’s grade, with many ribbons coming loose, getting lost, or parents understandably struggling to stitch them on securely and effectively.

➡️ What’s new?
We’ve now introduced individual belts with their stripe woven all the way through the belt itself.
This means:

Clear and instant grade recognition

No sewing, no glue, no loose ribbons

A cleaner, more traditional and professional look

With this year marking the 125-year anniversary of the Anglo-Japanese Ju-Jutsu & Judo Association, it felt like the perfect time to modernise the system while respecting our heritage. We’re proud to finally make this happen.

🗓 Availability
These new belts will be available to purchase from the March grading onwards.

🔁 Already have stripe mons?
No problem at all. If you already have stripe mons on your belt and would like to continue with them, you absolutely can. This is an option, not a requirement.

Thank you to all the parents and students who have given feedback over the years — we’ve listened, and we think you’ll love this update as much as we do.
