Another exciting weekend for the Clapham North Mazda MX-5 Championship at Donington Park is in the books!

Jack Harding and Sam Middleton were the men to beat in Pro and Club classes respectively, taking clean sweeps with three impressive wins each in class across the event. Superb displays in a fiercely competitive field.

A big thank you to all the drivers who turned out and put on a great show – the grid was stacked with talent, and the racing didn’t disappoint.

Next up, we’re heading to Oulton Park. We’d love to see even more Mk3s lining up on the grid in Cheshire, so if you’re thinking about joining, now’s the time.

Let’s make it a big one! 🏁

2025 CLAPHAM NORTH MAZDA MX-5 SUPERCUP @ DONINGTON PARK GP - 7/8 JUNE 2025 - RACE MEETING PREVIEW

The Mazda MX-5 SuperCup is set for a critical weekend at Donington Park, where the title fights in both the Pro and Club classes could see significant shifts. With Donington's varied layout testing every aspect of a driver's skill and car setup, the stage is set for some intense battles and potential championship-altering moments.

In the Pro category, Ollie Hall leads the way, thanks to a series of strong performances. Hall’s multiple and consistent podium finishes and top five underline him as one of the key players this season and may still be waiting for his first win - but surely that comes soon. However, Alistair Dendy remains a constant threat in second right now, positioned closely behind and consistently challenging for top results. Both drivers have shown an ability to run at the front and score well, and they could well carry on this rivalry going to Donington Park.

Will Blackwell-Chambers has won more races than anyone else so far with six from the first nine, and demonstrated exceptional speed to boot. However, a DNF at Brands Hatch has left him third at this stage (before dropped scores kick in later), and needs to keep on winning and taking to the podium to remain in contention for the crown.

Thomas Langford has also been a model of consistency, steadily collecting points with numerous top-five finishes and podiums in his first SuperCup season since winning last year’s MX-5 Championship title. He might not have scored a victory yet, but his pace in his first SuperCup year has been mighty impressive, so it must only be a matter of time. Clapham North’s very own George Grant has experienced a mixed bag, securing victories but also suffering DNFs that have hampered his overall standing. When he finishes, he's able to grab top five finishes, showing he’s made some great progress over the past 12 months and over the off-season.

Plus, watch out for the returning Jack Harding, who already has a win under his bely this season at Brands Hatch and will be keen to hit the ground running and add more to his 2025 total. He has to start the weekend as a favourite for victories.

Shifting to the Club class, Sam Middleton has been the dominant force, building a substantial lead with an impressive run of wins and podiums in only his first season in the champions hip. Middleton's consistency has been practically unmatched, leading to a comfortable buffer over his nearest rival and with pace to even trouble some of the Pro class runners at times too.

Jim Barratt trails behind, trying to bridge the gap. Despite some setbacks, including DNFs, Barratt has managed some very good races and collected valuable points when he has finished. The former BMW Compact Cup driver appears to get getting stronger and more confident with the car with every lap he drives.

Christopher Ginn is aiming to move up in the standings, having overcome early DNFs to put together a run of consistent finishes. Ginn has steadily improved, showing they can learn and push for solid points. Steve Kite has had a rollercoaster season, with notable highs like a win balanced out by DNFs. Kite's ability to bounce back will be crucial at Donington.

Clive Powles has found a rhythm, consistently placing within the mid-pack, providing reliability that has seen them maintain a steady flow of points. Finally, Bruce Robinson has demonstrated solid pace when he's been able to compete, with good finishes in each of the races he's entered in and around the top five.

As we steer into Donington Park for this weekend's event, a quick moment to recap what happened in our previous round as a reminder...

Will Blackwell-Chambers completed a perfect weekend at Snetterton in the Clapham North Mazda MX-5 SuperCup, extending his winning run with three more victories. Race one featured a fierce fight between Blackwell-Chambers and Ollie Hall, with the two going side-by-side multiple times before WB-C edged clear in the closing stages to take the win.

Thomas Langford pressured both but had to settle for third, while Alistair Dendy claimed fourth. Sam Middleton was once again untouchable in the Club Class, finishing fifth overall and well ahead of Jim Barratt and Clive Powles.

Race two saw Blackwell-Chambers control the pace from the front, gradually pulling away as Langford and Hall chased. Langford looked threatening but dropped back late on, allowing WB-C to win comfortably. Middleton continued his strong form, finishing fourth overall and securing another dominant Club Class win. Hall completed the podium, with Dendy rounding out the top five.

In race three, Hall, Langford and Blackwell-Chambers ran nose-to-tail throughout, but a five-second track limits penalty for Langford reshuffled the order. WB-C inherited victory to complete the clean sweep, with Hall second and Dendy third. Middleton again topped the Club Class and finished an impressive fourth overall.

Does Will have the speed to take more wins this weekend at Donington? Or do his rivals have something in the tank to get one over him?
