🦞 Crayfish Control at Carpdell Fishery 🦞

We’ve recently put in additional crayfish traps around the lake to help control the invasive Signal Crayfish population and improve the quality of your fishing.

So far this year, we’ve already successfully removed around 2,000 crayfish and it’s put a good dent in the population
Nick our bailiff did not get any issues with them this weekend however we are still getting reports of baits damaged by Crays from time to time

As part of our trapping licences, we have a legal responsibility to check the traps on a daily basis, so you may see our staff walking the lake checking and emptying them once a day.

It’s worth having a look around the lake at the areas you’re fishing, as traps may be positioned near your spots
please feel free to go around the lake and carefully remove traps while you’re fishing and replace it afterwards.
The traps should be easy to spot with white EA licence tags / orange pegs attached

Your cooperation really helps us keep crayfish numbers under control and improve the fishing for everyone.

Thanks for your support and tight lines! 🎣🦞

Fish Welfare Comes First

At Carpdell Fishery we are committed to maintaining the highest standards of fish care and fish welfare for every angler using the lake.

To help protect our stock and ensure the continued health of our carp
Always use:

* Fishery landing nets
* Fishery weigh slings
* Fishery unhooking mats

These are provided to reduce the risk of disease transfer and to help protect our fish from damage and stress.

Barbless or micro barbed hooks
No fixed or bolt rigs
No Magic twigs or other auto hooking devices

To further improve fish welfare, we now also provide:

* Sets of forceps
* Gent Purple Spray
* Propolis Spray

These are available for treating hook holds, wounds, and damaged areas before returning fish safely to the water.

Fish Treatment Guidance

* Use the purple spray on any external wounds, hook holds, or abrasions
* Follow this with the propolis spray to help seal and protect the area
* Treat fish carefully and efficiently before release

Snagged Fish Guidance

* In the event of getting a fish snagged, do not pull for a break
* maintain firm pressure for 5 minutes then Put the rod down
* Fish will often free themselves naturally
* Contact a bailiff and, wherever possible, we will assist and attempt to free the fish using the boat (drop nick a text he is unlikely to call back immediately if working or sleeping!)

Please Remember

* Keep fish wet and low to the ground at all times
* Return fish promptly and carefully
* Never stand while holding fish for photographs
* Once the fish is safely in the net, consider unhooking the fish in the water where possible
* unhook or If needed, unclip or cut the hook length to reduce mouth damage and stress to the fish before taking out of the water

A morning of work removing snags and raking the bottom either side of the life boy proved beneficial for Nick with this 14lb stocky coming out 15 minutes after he got out of the water, did not have time to put his rod down !

Always good to have Lee and the boys down. Still early in the year, but a very solid session with 9 carp on the bank, up to 28lb. Great angling.

The Lake has woken up exceptionally early this year. Tommie and the lads down this weekend, with seven on the bank. Top catch was Florence, up at 32lb, with several other catches just behind that. Great angling!

The lake has certainly slowed down as we get deeper into winter, but that wasn't going to stop Maciej and the lads getting a couple of decent fish on the bank. Great angling lads.
