🚨New coach Alert🚨Welcome SAM! 🏋🏻
Hey everyone! I’m Sam, and I’m really excited to be joining the Crossfit NQY community as your new weightlifting coach.
Weightlifting has been a lifelong passion for me. With over two decades of coaching experience I’ve been privileged to coach athletes to medal at both English and British Age Group and Senior Championships, but just as rewarding for me is helping complete beginners build confidence under the bar or supporting box members in building strength and skill for your WODs. I’m a British Weightlifting Club Level 2 Club Coach and have a BSc and MSc in Strength & Conditioning, with a focus on Skill Acquisition applied to coaching practice.
I’ve been on both sides of the platform as a former competitor myself, and have experienced all the highs and frustrations that come with this sport! I know what it’s like to start from scratch, chase goals, hit plateaus, and find a way through. Whether you’re brand new to lifting or aiming for competitive success, I’ll meet everyone where they’re at to support your progress.

This month, we’re celebrating the one and only Gemma Thomas – a total ray of sunshine and a true pillar of the CrossFit Newquay community.
Gemma brings her signature smile and infectious energy to every single session. She’s relentlessly consistent, showing up, putting in the work, and quietly smashing her goals – wall walks, we’re looking at you! But she’s not just focused on her own progress; Gemma lifts everyone around her with her warmth, positivity, and genuine support.
Her impact goes beyond the box floor. During this year’s Open, Gemma didn’t just compete – she inspired her son to step up and join her. Watching them share that journey was a beautiful reflection of the energy and example she brings to everything she does.
And let’s not forget the treats! Gemma’s legendary baking has become a post-WOD favourite – fuelling our bodies and putting big smiles on our faces.

The BIGGEST of shoutouts to our epic members that competed last weekend! 💥
Any form of competition is not easy, it involves real courage and confidence to put yourself out there and give it some, and that’s exactly what these members did 🔥
Massive congrats to Katy and Hollie for smashing the London Marathon 🏃 💨 - what an achievement! With both ladies saying, they never would have dreamed they could complete a marathon before they started CrossFit! 😍
And big props to Ed and Tara for throwing down at local comp Truro City Swingers! Both hitting huge PB’s in their clean hang clean complex! Thank you for the epic photos as always ❤️
