The strongest people aren’t always the ones lifting the heaviest.
Sometimes strength looks completely different.
It looks like getting out of bed when your mind is telling you to stay there.
It looks like showing up when you don’t feel motivated.
It looks like starting again after you’ve failed.
It looks like admitting that you’re struggling instead of pretending everything is okay.
It looks like asking for help.
We put so much emphasis on physical strength.
How much can you lift?
How fast can you run?
How much weight have you lost?
How much muscle have you built?
But what about the battles nobody can see?
The anxiety you don’t talk about.
The pressure you’re carrying.
The relationship that’s falling apart.
The stress from work.
The thoughts that keep you awake at night.
The lack of confidence you’ve been hiding behind a smile.
Nobody sees those weights.
But you’re carrying them every single day.
That’s why I don’t believe personal training is just about training someone’s body.
Sometimes a session gives someone an hour where they can switch off.
Sometimes it’s the one place they feel like they’re making progress.
Sometimes it’s having someone beside them who believes in them when they don’t believe in themselves.
And sometimes, simply turning up is a victory.
So don’t judge your strength purely by what you can lift.
Because some of the strongest people you’ll ever meet are fighting battles you’ll never know about.
And if you’re struggling, you don’t have to carry it alone.
Asking for help isn’t weakness.
It’s strength.

Thank You PureGym, Rhyl.
7 weeks ago, I walked through the doors of PureGym Rhyl after taking a year away from something I am extremely passionate about.
Something that has always been much more than just a job to me.
Changing lives. Inspiring others. Helping people become the best versions of themselves, physically and mentally.
For the previous 12 months, I had stepped away from personal training after my own PT studio was forced to close due to structural damage.
What happened took a huge toll on me, both physically and mentally. I lost something I had poured so much time, energy and passion into.
I was eager to get back to doing what I love, so I reached out to PureGym Rhyl and from the moment I walked through those doors, I was welcomed with open arms.
7 weeks later, I can honestly say I made the right decision.
I’ve been able to pick up where I left off, rebuild my client base, meet some amazing people and, most importantly, finally do what I love full time again.
And I don’t think I can put into words how grateful I am for that.
To the PureGym team, thank you for welcoming me into the gym and making me feel part of the team from day one.
To the members, thank you for the conversations, the encouragement, the support and for making me feel at home.
To everyone who attends my classes, thank you for showing up, putting in the work and trusting me to push you.
And to every person who has signed up for PT with me over the last 7 weeks, thank you for putting your trust in me with your goals, your confidence, your health and your journey.
Every conversation, every session, every little breakthrough and every person I’ve been able to help has reminded me exactly why I started doing this in the first place.
I had a difficult chapter over the last 12 months, but these last 7 weeks have reminded me that sometimes a setback isn’t the end of your story.
Sometimes it’s the beginning of a better chapter.
So, to everyone at PureGym Rhyl who has supported me, spoken to me, trained with me, attended a class, recommended me, signed up for PT or simply said hello as I’ve walked around the gym.
Thank you.
Here’s to the next chapter.

Going 100mph with your training
One thing I often talk to my clients about is the speed we try to live our lives at when we first start training.
When you first decide to make a change, it’s very easy to go 100mph.
You’re excited.
You’re motivated.
You’re ready for a new lifestyle, a new diet, a new body and to finally start feeling better about yourself again.
So you train hard. You change your diet. You start walking more. You’re suddenly doing everything you possibly can.
And honestly?
That can be an amazing kick start.
But here’s the problem…
You can’t stay at 100mph forever.
Think about a car.
If you constantly drove it at 100mph with the engine sitting at high revs, eventually something is going to give.
Our bodies are no different.
Training is stress. Life is stress. Work is stress. Sleep, nutrition, family and everything else going on around us all contribute to the overall load our body has to deal with.
Eventually, your body naturally starts to slow you down.
Your energy drops.
Your workouts don’t feel as good.
You start getting little niggles and aches.
Your motivation isn’t what it was when you started.
And I’ve actually had a handful of clients say exactly this to me over the last week.
These are clients who aren’t just doing their PT sessions. They’re attending classes, doing their own solo sessions in between, and really putting the work in.
But this week I’ve heard things like:
“I don’t feel as motivated this week.”
“I feel weaker this week.”
“I’ve got some aches and pains that are bothering me.”
And my response is simple:
This might be a sign that you need to ease your foot off the accelerator.
This is where a lot of people make the mistake of thinking:
“I’m losing motivation.”
“I’m going backwards.”
“Maybe this just isn’t for me.”
But sometimes, you’re not going backwards at all.
Sometimes your body is simply telling you:
“Slow down.”
If you’ve been running at 100mph for weeks, dropping to 50mph for a little while isn’t failure.
It isn’t laziness.
It isn’t losing your progress.
It’s understanding your body well enough to know when you need to ease off the accelerator.
Maybe that week means reducing the weight.
Maybe it means doing one less session.
Maybe it means getting more sleep.
Maybe it means taking a proper rest day instead of forcing another workout.
And remember, if you spend a week or two at 50mph, you’re still heading in the right direction.
You haven’t stopped.
You haven’t undone all your progress.
You’re still moving forward.
Because 50mph is always better than 0mph.
The goal isn’t to live at 100mph.
The goal is to find a speed you can sustain.
Because I’d much rather have a client training at 50–70mph consistently for years than someone training at 100mph for six weeks before burning themselves out and stopping completely.
Fitness isn’t about how hard you can go when motivation is at its highest.
It’s about learning how to keep moving when motivation naturally comes and goes.
Sometimes you push the accelerator.
Sometimes you ease your foot off it.
Both are part of the journey.
Slowing down doesn’t mean you’ve stopped.
Sometimes slowing down is exactly what allows you to keep going.

There’s something I’ve realised over the years
Doing things alone can make you feel strong.
You go to the gym alone.
You deal with your problems alone.
You keep your struggles to yourself.
You tell everyone you’re fine when, really, you’re not.
And eventually, you convince yourself that needing someone else means you’re weak.
I’ve been guilty of this myself.
People think that because I’m a Personal Trainer, I have everything 100%. I don’t.
I’m guilty of convenience eating during busy days.
I’m guilty of giving 50% on a workout.
I’m guilty of struggling with motivation.
I have days where I don’t want to train. Days where I’d rather go home. Days where eating something quick and convenient feels easier than preparing a proper meal.
But that makes me one thing…
Human.
As a PT, I have a sacred hour at 5pm. Nobody can book me because that’s my training time. I train with my training partner.
Do I need him? No.
I know what I’m doing. I know how to train. I know all exercise I need to do, I know how to eat. I could quite easily walk into that gym by myself and get a workout done.
But having him there makes a difference.
When I’ve had a long day and my motivation is low, he pushes me. He listens when I need to talk. He keeps me accountable.
And when I say, “I’ve got one more rep left,” he’ll say…
“No. Three.”
Sometimes you don’t need somebody to teach you what to do.
You just need somebody who can see when you’re capable of more than you’re giving.
That’s something I want my clients to understand too.
When you walk through the gym doors, you don’t need to be confident. You don’t need to know everything. You don’t need to have your nutrition perfect or understand every exercise.
You just need to be willing to start.
Because personal training isn’t about me doing everything for you.
It’s about helping you build the knowledge, confidence and habits to eventually feel comfortable doing it yourself.
But until you get there, there’s nothing wrong with having someone beside you.
Because sometimes the hardest part isn’t the workout.
It’s feeling like you’re doing it alone.
And you don’t have to.

Ask questions
I’m not here to exercise your body for an hour, count your reps and wave you goodbye.
I want every session to be a form of education.
I often tell my clients to think of their sessions as their own personal Fitness School.
I want you to understand what you’re doing, why you’re doing it and what it’s actually doing for your body.
Because the gym can be an intimidating place when you don’t understand it.
What exercise should I be doing?
How many sets?
How many reps?
How heavy should I go?
Am I doing this correctly?
What should I be eating?
What does this machine do?
You shouldn’t feel stupid for asking these questions.
In fact, I want you to ask them.
A good coach shouldn’t just give you instructions. They should give you understanding.
Because the goal isn’t for you to blindly rely on me forever.
The goal is to build your confidence, knowledge and ability to eventually walk into any gym and know exactly what you’re doing.
And personal training isn’t just about what happens during the hour we spend together.
Exercise is one piece of the puzzle.
We also work on mindset, habits, consistency, sleep, lifestyle and the way you think about your own progress.
I don’t want you constantly chasing the perfect workout or starting again every Monday because you missed a session or ate something you shouldn’t have.
I want you to understand that progress isn’t always something you can see in the mirror.
Sometimes progress is lifting a weight you couldn’t lift six weeks ago.
Sometimes it’s feeling confident walking through the gym doors.
Sometimes it’s understanding your nutrition instead of following another restrictive diet.
Sometimes it’s simply not giving up when things don’t go perfectly.
Every session should leave you with more than just sore muscles.
It should leave you with more knowledge than you walked in with.
Because my job isn’t simply to train you.
My job is to teach you how to train yourself.

Neglect Debt.
This is something I talk about with my clients a lot.
Especially when we’re working on consistency, patience and changing the way they think about reaching their goals.
Because when someone comes to me wanting to get back into shape, one of the first things we have to work on isn’t their training…
It’s their mindset.
I understand that the mind will always give up before the body. That’s why I always put a lot of work into developing the mental skills and mindset needed to achieve their goals.
I often talk to my clients about the cost of getting back into shape.
And I don’t mean financially.
If you’ve spent months or even years neglecting yourself, eating poorly, barely moving and putting your health at the bottom of the priority list, you’ve built up what I call neglect debt.
Think of it like a debt you’ve been paying into every day.
ÂŁ50 for every day you neglected yourself.
ÂŁ50 for every takeaway instead of a nutritious meal.
£50 for every day you didn’t move.
£50 for every time you told yourself you’d start Monday.
Eventually, that debt adds up.
But here’s where people go wrong…
They suddenly decide they need to pay the whole thing back at once.
They weigh themselves every morning.
Measure everything.
Try on clothes constantly to see if they fit differently.
Change their diet every two weeks.
Get frustrated because they can’t see a difference after 10 days.
And eventually… they quit.
I don’t want my clients thinking like that.
For the first 3 months, I genuinely don’t want results to be the thing occupying your mind.
Your job isn’t to pay off the entire debt.
Your job is simply to make the next instalment.
Because obsessing over the result is a bit like clock watching.
If you’re desperate to finish work, every hour feels like a day.
You’re constantly looking at the clock, waiting for the end.
But if you enjoy your shift, get stuck into your work and stop worrying about when you’re going home…
The day disappears.
That’s exactly how I want you to approach your fitness journey.
I’m trying to make you forget the destination and enjoy the journey.
You walked into the gym?
ÂŁ50 paid.
You completed your workout?
ÂŁ50 paid.
You made a good meal instead of ordering takeaway?
ÂŁ50 paid.
You went for a walk when you couldn’t be bothered?
ÂŁ50 paid.
You chose to look after yourself today?
ÂŁ50 paid.
And eventually, something happens.
You stop obsessing over the debt…
Because you’re too busy making the repayments.
Then one day you look back and realise the debt is getting smaller.
Your clothes fit differently.
Your strength has improved.
Your confidence is coming back.
Your energy is better.
And most importantly…
you’ve become someone who looks after themselves again.
You don’t need to transform your entire life tomorrow.
You just need to make today’s payment.
Stop chasing the result.
Start making the repayments.
That’s how you get out of neglect debt.

The stigma of asking for help.
I’ve had hundreds of conversations with people over the years who tell me the same thing:
“I should be able to do this on my own.”
And I completely understand it.
You decide you’re going to change your life.
You start training.
You change your diet.
You’re motivated.
You’re smashing it for a few weeks, maybe even a few months.
Then life happens.
Your motivation drops. You miss a few sessions. Your diet slips.
And suddenly that little voice in your head says:
“I obviously don’t want it badly enough.”
So you quit.
Then you start again a few months later… and the exact same thing happens.
But what if the problem was never that you didn’t want it badly enough?
What if you were simply trying to do something difficult completely on your own?
When you train alone, motivation becomes your training partner.
And motivation is unreliable.
Some days it’s there.
Some days it isn’t.
That’s where having someone in your corner can make such a difference.
Someone who expects you to turn up.
Someone who keeps you accountable when you’re tempted to give up.
Someone who pushes you when you know you’ve got more in the tank.
Someone who celebrates the small wins with you and reminds you how far you’ve actually come.
And most importantly, someone who understands that your goal doesn’t have to be becoming a “gym addict”.
Not everyone wants to spend their entire life counting macros, eating out of plastic containers and planning their day around the gym.
Some people simply want to feel better.
Get stronger.
Lose some weight.
Improve their confidence.
Have more energy.
Improve their lifestyle and wellbeing.
And there is absolutely nothing wrong with asking for help to achieve that.
We can let pride get in the way of achieving the things we actually want.
You wouldn’t be ashamed to ask a mechanic to fix your car because you don’t know how to do it yourself.
So why should you be ashamed to ask someone for help changing your health and your life?
Asking for help doesn’t mean you’ve failed.
Sometimes, it’s the first sign that you’re finally ready to stop starting over and actually make a change.
