Charity bike ride from Land's End to John O'Groats in August 2013
In support of the Motor Neurone D Colin sadly passed away in 2010. Thank you :)
We've decided to grow our sideburns, squeeze into the Lycra (some squeezing more than others) and get on our bikes to cycle from Land's End to John O'Groats. That's nearly 1000 miles over ten days starting at Land's End in the South West of England, a quick nip into South Wales, up through the heart of England, riding through our home town (we expect you to be cheering us on as we “speed past”), t
hen up to Scotland and onwards to the finishing line at John O’Groats! We are doing this for a very good cause...
In 2006, Dave's brother, Colin Roy, was diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease. Darren's Girlfriend, Emma, also lost her grandfather John Murphy to the disease. Colin and John we're very much-loved by their families and friends, they were taken too soon and are dearly missed. Our ride is in tribute to their memory. MND is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that attacks the upper and lower motor neurones. Degeneration of the motor neurones leads to weakness and wasting of muscles, causing increasing loss of mobility in the limbs, and difficulties with speech, swallowing and breathing. The Motor Neurone Disease Association is the only national organisation in England, Wales and Northern Ireland dedicated to the support of people with MND and those who care for them. Their mission is to fund and promote research to bring about an end to MND. Until then we will do all that we can to enable everyone with MND to receive the best care, achieve the highest quality of life possible, and die with dignity. Their vision, and ours, is of a world free of MND
The disease can affect anyone at any time, so you never know when somebody like you might need the support of the Motor Neurone Disease Association. So please dig deep and donate now!
