It is certain Kings of the North cannot be charged with false advertising as the duo from Glasgow dominated in the third round to defend their title of Scottish Doubles Championship. Congratulations to 2x Scottish Doubles Champions Jerret B and Nick S!
In all 28 doubles teams took to Bluebell Woods disc golf course on Saturday and played three rounds of 18 holes each with a different doubles format to determine the winners of three division.
In the Open division after the 18-hole rounds of ‘best score’ and ‘alternate shot’ the leaderboard was tied at the top. Benji H (St Andrews) and Richard B (Longniddry) carding an impressive -15 down on our Red track before posting -1 down after Alternate shot on our Blue track. The Kings scores were equally impressive with -14 down and -2 down respectively for 2nd place. We all agreed the alternate shot format was going to separate the scores, then the winds got stronger for the day adding to the pressure. In the third round of ‘best shot’ doubles it was all over after the front nine as our leaders were scorching earth at -7 down only to drop 5 more birdies on the back nine and card a -12 down for the round to win the Championships. Be sure to keep an eye on some notable team Glasgow dominance in the Open draw 😉 There was also a brilliant eagle 2 on hole White 12 by locals Jack E (Haddington) and Kyle R (Galashiels) during the third round.
In the top Amateur division, it was Jeremy F (Edinburgh) and Seamus S (North Berwick) of team Raspberry Beret who fought off the tough competition to victory. After the first round the Raspberry Beret team was tied for 4th place, 2 strokes behind the leaders only picking up 1 stroke in the second round. Leading the first two rounds were the brothers Jason and Kris Glen (Glenrothes), posting the divisions overall top scores of -11 down on the Red track and a +6 in the second round of 18 ‘alternate shot’. On the Blue track alternate shot round it seemed all the teams had their struggles, not losing strokes was the key, any pars seemed like a win. In the third round of 'best shot' the current leaders did not post their first birdie until hole 12 on the White layout and eventually tied for 2nd place. Carding birdies on 6 of the last twelve holes with impressive drives by big Germ on Hole 8 and 16 set up the deuces that made the difference for the victory in the top Amateur division. Team Drynamite (Dunbar) along with Team Flex Appeal (Edinburgh) posted great scores but just ran out of disc golf course in the end.
In the second Amateur division it was another come from behind victory by Team ‘Dude, where’s our par?’ coming back from 4th place after the first round to win the division. Picking up 10 strokes during the alternate shot round made all the difference for the doubles the team of Cody T (Perth) and Aiden K (Fife). They added an additional 4 strokes during best shot round on the 18-hole White track to seal the victory.

Special Thank You to our prize sponsors Latitude 64 and Chocolate Tree for providing the most delicious players pack on Tour and UDisc for making scoring so easy.
