The visit of 3rd placed Kirkstall was always going to be a tough challenge despite the lads being understandably confident following a six game unbeaten run. Circumstances led to the loss of a couple of players shortly before kick off significantly weakening the squad. The first 20 minutes or so saw a competitive game with both sides sharing possession without creating a major chance. As the half wore on we started losing our concentration and shape which led to Kirkstall taking the lead. A collision of players saw us lose another player to injury and with no attacking options on the bench we knew it was going to be a slog then on. Halfway through the 2nd half another injury forced us to use our final sub whilst our guests enjoyed a full complement of subs enabling them to regularly rest players. Subsequently the last 20 minutes saw us hanging on under relentless pressure as our players had run themselves into the ground in the hot weather.

A defeat but under the circumstances a very good team performance under tough conditions against a strong team!

After 3 consecutive draws the ressies finally got back to winning ways Wednesday evening. Their opponents turned up to WF1 missing some of their kit and as the game commenced it was soon obvious they were missing some players as well. We enjoyed the majority of possession throughout the game but everytime the lads ventured into the final third they seemed to lose composure opting for worldly passes or attempting wonder goals! As the dying minutes approached it was looking like a frustrating 0-0 or even an unlikely late winner for Overthorpe but a crunching tackle in the box gave Casey Lamb the opportunity to score his first goal for the club smashing home the penalty. And like buses another goal came almost immediately to wrap up a 2-0 win!!

Tomorrow sees the visit of Kirkstall Crusaders FC who are third in the table.

Been a busy week as the reserves played Wednesday night before facing Scot FC this afternoon! Wednesday nights game was a hard fought affair. We conceded early direct from a corner and fought to get back into the game. A chaotic last 5 minutes in the half, where we completely lost our shape, almost saw us concede another and some heated discussion at the interval made us realise we had to reset our plan and go again. The 2nd half saw a much better performance from Fieldhead and we deservedly equalised and could have won it as we squandered some late chances.

On to today with a strong team we were optimistic that we would get the three points we were unlucky not to get in the previous two league games. As is the tradition now we conceded in the first minute! Despite this we started playing some fantastic football creating chance after chance. After we were denied two clear penalties we got the equaliser we deserved. Again chances came and went. This theme continued in the 2nd half as we had the majority of the possession, putting the ball in the net only to see it disallowed by the ref despite the player being clearly onside. Time ran out and for the third successive game we’d drawn feeling we should have got more than the solitary point.

Two more games to come this week, hopefully not another draw!

A game where we felt we’d done enough to win it and with a bit more luck probably would have. As happens more often than not we conceded first to a penalty but hit back straightaway twice to go into half time 2-1 up. Despite being the better team in the 2nd half our guests equalised from a corner. We pressed forwards creating numerous chances but couldn’t put the game to bed.

Wednesday night saw our run in the cup come to an end. Despite our opponents being in the division above us we were never out of the game until the final ten minutes or so. An early long throw saw us concede a soft goal and it could have gone downhill from there but slowly we grew into the game. We didn’t want the half to end as we were on top playing some lovely football. 2nd half was a more even affair with the difference being the superior firepower of our opponents whilst both goalkeepers pulled off fine saves. A penalty and another set piece put paid to any hope of a turnaround but there was plenty of positives to take from the game!

Good luck to Netherton as they head to the semi finals.

The reserves followed last weeks demolition of Battyeford with another convincing win! Despite having the majority of possession and the better chances in the first half we fell behind before equalising going into half time. After a slow start to the 2nd half we converted a penalty to take the lead. After that we were in complete control and had chance after chance which should have led to more goals than the further three we scored.
Tough game coming on Wednesday away to Netherton in the cup with a 6.15pm kick off no doubt causing availability problems for both sides.
