Aashna, from Watford Chess Club, secured an impressive 3rd place in the CSC Junior Grand Prix (U14) on 29 November, held at the iconic Emirates Stadium alongside the 2025 XTX Markets London Chess Classic.
As part of the event, juniors were given the chance to step into the main playing arena โ sharing the same stage where Grandmasters including R Praggnanandhaa, N Abdusattorov, and A Firouzja were competing. It was an unforgettable experience for all the players participating in the juniors event.
Weโre proud of her success, which continues to inspire fellow members at Watford Chess Club.

๐ Proud moment! Our best Junior, Avy, officially earned his Candidate Master (CM) title at the British Chess Championships after crossing the 2200 FIDE rating mark.
And another milestone โ heโs achieved and maintained a 2200 ECF rating for a full year, qualifying him for the National Master (NM) title! โ๏ธ๐
Hard work, consistency, and passion paying off โ onward and upward! ๐

โAs if that wasn't impressive enough, he also won the Best Game of the Tournament award. A brilliant double achievement!

A brilliant win for our Division 4 team! We hosted Enfield 1 last week in a match full of tense moments. Our warriors held their nerve, emerging triumphant with a decisive 3.5 - 1.5 scoreline. This crucial victory propels the club to the top of the Herts Chess league table!

We hosted Little Heath 2 team for the Herts Chess League competition and came up trumps with a score of 3-2. The match was evenly fought with draws on 4 boards of the 5 and one win. With lots more matches to come, the team looks in great shape. Well done to the Watford 1 team. Keep it going!

An update on recent performances of three of our newer juniors. Akyra won (on tie-break) the Harrow u-8 qualifier for the UK Chess Challenge with 5/6 while Harsh*th, playing in his first competitive event, won the beginners section at Maidenhead with 6/6 with Hithesh joint third with 4.5 points. Kudos to the kiddos, and wish them good luck for the future.

Some more excerpts from the Puller Cup from the U-1750 section. Some closely fought games, and intense moments. This is why we love the game, as it not only tests your mental strength but also demands coming through under time pressure.
