Lesley Ugochukwu may be placed on loan, according to manager Mauricio Pochettino, after the midfielder joined Chelsea from Rennes for 27 million euros (£23.2 million).

Even though Ugochukwu has a seven-year contract, Pochettino has not yet made a decision regarding the Frenchman's immediate future.

The 19-year-old has played for Rennes in 47 Ligue 1 matches and the Europa League.

"We need to assess him when he starts training today and then in London after the tour," said Pochettino.

"He's a young, talented player. Now is the time to assess him until the end of the transfer window and see if he is going to be with us or if it is possible to loan him."

Ugochukwu, whose contract contains a one-year extension option, has played for Les Bleus at the under-17, under-18, and under-19 levels but has not yet made his senior international debut for France
