💡⚽ DID YOU KNOW…?

If your child’s coach is asking whether they are available for a match that’s still a month away, they are not just being ridiculously organised… there’s a reason!

Once fixtures are scheduled, teams need to give the league at least 28 days’ notice if they need to pull out of a weekend.

Less than 28 days = 💸 a fine for the club.

And each fine actually costs us more than one player’s monthly subs, so they soon add up!

So, if you know you have got a weekend away, birthday, family plans or anything else coming up, please let your coach know and update your availability on Spond as soon as you can.

This is particularly important around half terms and school holidays, when lots of families are away at the same time and coaches need to work out whether they will have enough players.

Obviously we know illnesses, injuries and last minute things happen, nobody expects you to predict those! This is just about giving as much notice as possible when you do already know.

So next time your coach is asking about a fixture four weeks away… they are not being a pain. They are trying to save us a fine. 😂💛⚽

💛 A little reminder as the new season begins… 💛

Southside Youth is run entirely by volunteers.

The person replying to your message, chasing a registration photo or sorting a payment isn’t sitting in a Southside office, they are probably doing it after work, once the kids are in bed, or somewhere between making dinner and getting everyone to training. 😅

The coaches planning sessions.
The parents running the line.
The people putting up goals and marking out pitches.
The volunteers organising fixtures, registrations and referees.
The people answering messages, ordering kit, checking paperwork and doing a hundred other little jobs behind the scenes.

They are all just people giving up their own time so that hundreds of children can play football every week. ⚽️

We won’t always get everything right. We might take a little while to reply. Sometimes we might need to chase you for something you have already sent us (sorry! 🙈).

But every single person involved is trying their best.

So as we head into another busy season, we are asking for just one thing:

Please be kind to our volunteers. 💛

And if you see someone helping out at Southside this season, give them a thank you. It genuinely means a lot.

⚽️ We have the players… now we need a few more people to help them play! ⚽️

Our waiting lists are currently BURSTING with children who want to join Southside and in some age groups, the only thing standing between those children and another Southside team is finding someone willing to help coach it. 💛

You do NOT need to be an experienced football coach.

You don’t need to know every drill in the book, have played at a high level, or be the next Pep Guardiola. 😂

What you do need is enthusiasm, a little bit of spare time and a willingness to give it a go.

Many of our current coaches started simply because their child wanted to play football and they decided to step forward and help.

If you’ve ever thought “I could probably help with that…”, we would love to hear from you.

Because one new volunteer can mean another whole group of children gets to play football. ⚽️💛

⚽️💛 Nearly there, Southside! 💛⚽️

As we get ready for another new season, we want to say a HUGE thank you to all of our parents and carers who have helped us get hundreds of players registered over the summer. 🙌

We know there have been forms to complete, photos to upload, details to check and the occasional reminder (or three! 😅), and we really appreciate everyone helping us get it done.

We’re now on the final push to get our remaining players registered before this weekend so our teams are ready to go! ⚽️

💳 Subs for the new season

Payment schedules will be sent out this week, so please keep an eye on Spond and set up your payments promptly when you receive them. Getting these set up quickly makes a huge difference and saves our volunteers having to spend time chasing payments later on. 🙏

And thank you to everyone who has recently joined one of our waiting lists! 💛 Our lists are absolutely bursting at the moment and we’ll be in touch with more information very soon.

We can’t wait to see everyone back on the pitch!

💙 Happy Father’s Day 💙

Today, we want to say a huge thank you to all the dads, grandads, stepdads, father figures, coaches, volunteers, committee members and parents who give up their time week in, week out to make grassroots football happen.

To the coaches who spend their evenings and weekends helping children develop, grow in confidence and fall in love with the game, often coaching teams that don’t even include their own children, thank you. Your impact reaches far beyond football.

To the parents running the line, helping set up pitches, washing kits, making teas, organising lifts and volunteering behind the scenes, thank you for everything you do for our players and our club.

We also know that Father’s Day can be difficult for some. Today we are thinking of those who have lost a dad, are missing a father figure, or find this day challenging for any reason.

Whatever Father’s Day means to you, we hope you have a wonderful day and know how much your contribution to our Southside family is appreciated.
