Ararat Men’s Group,
A HUGE thank you to everyone who took part in hosting the Ararat Men’s Group at HARLEQUINS this evening.
We welcomed 15 of their members and set up a friendly tournament of two games, mixing our players and theirs into twelve teams.
It made for a lively and enjoyable evening of fun and pétanque.
Thank you especially to those who helped with the setting up and running of the event, and for providing the all-important tea, coffee, and biscuits. Your efforts helped everything run smoothly and created a really welcoming atmosphere.
The Ararat group were an absolute pleasure—what a lovely bunch of people—and it was clear that everyone, guests and members alike, thoroughly enjoyed themselves. We may even have gained a couple of new members from the evening, which is a great bonus.
All in all, a very successful and enjoyable evening for the club. Well done, and thanks again 👏

WPA 2025 National Singles Competitions
A glorious day at the Harlequins yesterday as the club hosted the Welsh Pétanque Association’s National Singles Competitions for men and women. All 16 pistes were used during the day, providing diverse and challenging surfaces for all the Competitors. Special mention and congratulations to two of our club players- Phil Freegard and Rob Glaves who finished 8th and 12th respectively in the morning qualifying matches to progress into the Cup Competition in the afternoon. Given they were playing against some of the very best players in Wales and reached the quarter finals, this was an excellent achievement.
Many thanks to everyone involved in preparing the club for this event, in setting up, running the successful raffle and supporting on the day. The feedback from the WPA and competitors has all been positive and is a great testimony to our clubs teamwork and effort in hosting this event. Some photos of the day, played in perfect weather can be found on our Facebook site. Well done everyone.

The Harlequins Open Triples Competition
It certainly was a successful tournament at the Harlequins Petanque Club on the 10th May 2025.
We welcomed 12 teams from across South Wales and the atmosphere was buzzing from start to finish.
The day was superbly organised and enjoyed by everyone who attended — a real credit to our club.
A huge thank you to Rob Glaves for his expert handling of the competition and scoring — calm, professional, and spot-on throughout. Hats off to the catering team for keeping us all so well-fed and watered, and to the setup and clear-up crew — your hard work made everything run like clockwork. It couldn’t have been run without you all.
The pétanque itself? Absolutely top drawer! All our teams played well, but one of our Harlequins teams battled all the way to the final, only to be beaten 13-8 by the top team in Wales — an incredibly credible result and something we can be really proud of. The Harlequins team who reached the final were - Phil Freegard, Rob Glaves and Gareth Combes ( Caerleon). The winners of our inaugural Open Competition were Len Field, Jean-Yves Robic and Ian Bailey.
Well done, everyone — Harlequins Pétanque really shone today!

Great turnout for the Easter "chuck in" this morning.
Even though the weather wasn’t good, we had a couple of fun games of Pétanque, enjoyed some lovely hot cross buns, and we stayed nice and dry under our new pergola. A big thank you to the catering team for setting everything up so well. Congratulations to Huw who won the draw and took home the lovely Easter Bunny Basket that Carolyn had so expertly crocheted and filled with chocolate eggs!
A really enjoyable morning was had by all.

Our Coaching for Coaches project took a big step forward today following a video meeting between our President Dr. Barnabas Novak and William ROUX (Training Centre Manager) and Patrice RODRIGUEZ (National Technical Director) of the French Federation.
As many of you know, our project is designed to help train and educate European coaches.
An invitation with the details of the revised course, to be held at our headquarters in Luxembourg from 30 May to 1 June, will be sent to all member federations in the coming weeks.
